im thinking of respraying the old sierra, just had a quick questions to see what you guys think im repraying the car with the oringinal colour, now would i have to put new primer on or if i sand it all back and use wax and grease remover ect..... will it be ok to just spray new coat on top.

surface preparation is the key to any respray, i'm no spray painter but i would mask it up, sand, wax & grease remover, prime, sand, sand, wax & grease remover. then paint.

depends if you want flash. i plan on just washing mine with a scourer and wax&grease remover.

Shep is right, it depends on how good you want it, there is no great problem rubbing it back real well with wet and dry and painting over your existing paint with the same colour, you are obviously not expecting a $3000 paint job if you are doing it yourself. I have seen some very good results done this way.

yea it doesn't need to be anything flash i just want to get rid of the surface rust so it doesn't get any worse, i know putting down a coat of primer would be better but just wanted to check that spraying over the existing paint would be ok.

i have painted a few cars myself but i am no expert. i would sand it back just to take the clear off. if your painting it the same colour you shouldnt need a primer. but if you sand it back to metal use an etch primer. any spots of rust you have i would sand it right back to bare metal and use a rust converter or something that spray with etch primer.
as said before prep is most important and take you time to do a good job.
