Supply and demand dude.

Not many people buy 4.9s for various reasons, so they cannot produce them in as large quantities, therefore they cost more.

I have 29" tyres with 6.5 gears. RPM increase by 250rpm to get 100km/hr. Speedo speed = 93km/hr = True speed = 100km/hr.

Sounds like mine when I first got it . Standard gears, 180k engine & 29" tyres, struggled to do 100km/hr flat to the floor, down a hill, with a tail wind, & drafting a truck.

Look at your engine and tuning.

Mine now has a rebuilt engine, mild cam, extractors & 6.5s easily do 100km/hr on highway about 1/3 throttle.

I been thinking of geting reduction gears for my tyres and also for 4wding

I have already got extractors and I have a 1.6 vitara head, I think its the motor, its on its way out, would you no how much a rebuild would set me back thanks

Hot tank clean - $60
Rebore and hone 20 thou over - $125
Deck block - $63
Pistons - $146
Fit pistons to conrod - $40
Cam regrind $155
Add gasket kit can't remember the price I paid.

I got my son (16) to do the disassembly and reassembly with his Granfather so saved a fair bit there.

As for 4wding with 6.5 it can get a little weary changing between low and high range with 29 tyres but the lower gearfar outweighs that.

im on my last year of tafe and my teacher said that i can do the reboring and pretty much all the rebuild there pretty much dirt cheap

Yep pistons and rings. Apparently the last set they could source in Aus. at the time. 20 thou oversize. Bought them 12/2009.

The TAFE shed is one of the best for stuff.

ok thanks for the info, ok ill source it out, do u think itll be better to buy a 2nd hand motor then to rebuild one

i think rebuild is a better wat to go might pick up a second hand motor for cheap but 6 months later u migght find it need sa rebuild

give the one u got a pretty up and rebuild it can work out better in the long run
