It is also illegal to fit an engine that is older than the car, if that helps at all.

Did you know that the K series engine was still available overseas till 1996

It will all depend on what you are putting it in and why, as a cheap alternative they are still viable, plenty of suzukis still running them.

Vit 16 is not the be all and end all it is just another alternative, I would be happy to have a 2 stroke sierra.

dont think the vit is a viable option anyway as im on straight gas
and no longer have a fuel tank. it is a waste to put fuel injected engine
in to run on gas the way i see it.... correct me if im wrong...

You don't have to run the efi, pm eve11, he runn's Lpg with I think 16v.

Hay 2stroker, you know I'm not bias with eng's, it's just a good option, unless you can supply 20v toy eng with ecu, rad & everything else you need to fit for 1k.. :P :P

& the eng come's in other Suzuki's to, so part's are not a problem.  javascript:emoticon('post', 'message', '')

If you want to really get into legalities. it is actually illegal to fit any engine that the car's entire range never had fitted. So technically speaking you can legally fit into a shitbox 1.8l impreza a 2.5litre turbo wrx motor but you can't legally fit a 1.6 vit motor into a sierra.

That is unless you talk to an engineer.

what a steaming load of shit that is!!

every state is different and in qld we are allowed to fit any 1.6 4 cyl and get a simple mod plate and its covered

reckon other states are the same, you are confusing a conversion that doesnt need approval and even then you are still wrong as you need to swap all driveline parts that are different

NO IT IS NOT illegal to fit an engine that is older than the car..... The age of the engine has absolutely nothing to do with whether it gets approval or not..... The deciding factor is that the replacement engine meets or exceeds the emissions regulations for the year of the car.

Well you might be right about states being different, but this is coming from SA, widely regarded as being the most relaxed state in terms of modified vehicles laws. QLD is regarded as being the most anal.

read this
http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/pdfs/personal_transport/light_vehicles_pdfs/Info19.pdf

Maybe the mistake I made was using the impreza example.

I am not trying to say that you shouldn't do this because it is illegal, i honestly couldn't give two hoots what you can squeeze into your rigs and i might even put a vit motor in my jimny one day.
If its going on the road you can only cover your own arse by getting it engineered.
