So my timing belt is stripped :?

Bottom end spins fine, top end spins fine, tensioner etc is all loosygoosy. and belt tension before I removed it was good as well.

Why else do these motors strip belts? the previous owner seemed to think the cam was siezed... this would make me think he had a problem with it stripping belts and hence selling it on? (all speculation) the car also has a very clean fresh head, head gasket and exhaust gasket.

so what I'm asking is... should while I am halfway to getting the head off rip it off and take it in? and what else could potentially cause the belt to strip half a dozen teeth?

Head gasket on wrong way, oil doesnt feed to teh cam and it seizes

heads probably rooted in the cam journals but cant hurt to look once you get it off

cam spins and all the valve train seems fine by hand. is there any set way to tell or just take it in to the experts?

by hand isnt 4000rpm!!!

pull the head off and see if the headgasket is on right or if there is plenty of oil up around the cam

There may have been some head work done and the caqm journals were not sorted that is the cam may not be spinning in the journals because they are out of alignment.

cheer's guys. I'll drag into the head into a shop in the next few weeks and will let you know what comes of it.

is it worth getting bigger cam/head shaved etc or should I just put my money towards a 1.6efi or similar conversion down the track?
