auto advantages:
-dont have to get out of the car to engage 4wd, bringing sand, mud, etc back in with you to have to clean out at a later date
manual advantages:
-increased fuel economy from not having to power 2 diffs
-increased tyre life
-less stress on the driveline
-more than likely lighter to steer (i feel a difference between 2wd and 4wd in my sierra)
however there is one thing that you will need to ask others on this forum... i dont know how the GV 4wd system works... i know that my dads ford escape says its an awd or 4wd, whatever... however its actually a front wheel drive only, until it detects loss of traction, and thats when it kicks in the rear wheels. has a centre diff lock button to have permanent 4wd, but only for use offroad... Id be double checking that GV arent the same, although i do doubt it

the GV's have drive plates on the end of the axle instead of FWH or Auto hubs
auto's will also unlock when rocking back & forth, then when you go to punch they need to re lock.
manual's makes it feel like you own a 4wd seeing you have to get out & lock the hubs.

So for $80 a set the best bet would be to fit a set of manuals?

Not sure about the Jimny's, have a look at the last couple of pages of zukenutter's build up as I know he's just done the conversion using sierra hubs & a spacer to clear the vacuum pipe.

Does the GV have IFS?
I'm a bit new to this but...
If break a CV in a manual hub vehicle can't you unlock the broken one to have 3WD?
Or is that a bad idea?

For the Gv, coily ( the only part that fit's other zook's) & vit hub's..

yes its ifs but irrelevant to the hubs
no you cant unlock one hub for 3wd as the diff will just send the drive to that side, same as when you have a wheel in the air it turns and the other doesnt
what it does allow you to do (on a gv) is unlock the driveshaft and drive home when you break a CV or bang a diff, the shafts always turn on a GV even in 2wd normally and while you can disable the shafts, turning a hub is easier and probably better on road too
