Ok time for a noob question :roll:
I wana change the gearbox oil on my vitara this weekend but i just need to know how much oil do they take?????
and does anyone know the best oil to use for a really noisey gearbox

vmx 80 works well pretty sure made by castrol.
you could also use an additive.
wont take much couple of litres id say.

Who's that shep? I have heard of Morly's. Got a pic or a link?? :P :P


Vmx80 is a Castrol product, but most brand's will have a straight 80w, how noisy are you talking Joe???

3.3 litres for the gearbox + transfercase- 70w/90

3.3 litres for the front & back diffs - 80w/90


an old suzuki mechanic told me to use castrol & morey's oil stabaliser :wink:

Pretty bad :( its always had a winey noise since i got but now its like a metallic howl :roll:

what ended up happening with the gearbox out of the old vit, from memory the engine was going into a sierra?

is it still kicking around...

Gearbox snapped in half 8O :P :lol:
Brodie keeped the motor and wiring then the rest went to sims metal.....

may just be noisy throwout bearing? doesit go away when you depress the clutch? or possibly input shaft bearing.

Nah not the throwout bearing it comes on when under load......

that's the stuff, they have a oil stabiliser that is like syncros in a bottle. :wink: :lol:

OK i just noticed on my way to work that the noise is only really there in 1,2 and 3 :? 4 and 5 gears still have the normal gearbox whine but are fine other then that....
Any ideas what it could be??????

Done a oil change with vmx80 and made no differance :evil:
Any idea where i can get ahold of that moreysoil????i had a look at supercheep and autoone but they didnt have any :roll:

SCA usually stock Lucas products.. Similar stuff, different brand.
I've got a small tube of Nulon gear and diff treatment. It worked really well in my commo when I had it.

I had another look at supercrap and found some :roll: Ill try it out tomorrow.
I went for a bit of a drive before and now after the oil change it does seem a bit quieter so hopefully this stuff helps...........

i no this is prob a stupid question but where and how do you put the oil stabilizer in? like with engine diff gbox oils or just one?
