I am currently running a 300CCA supercharger battery in the zook, but just doesent seem to cut it after a few cranks its out of charge can you run something bigger without burning out the startermotor?

you wont burn the starter
what you do have to be careful you dont burn is both terminals into the underside of the bonnet, which then jams the bonnet shut so you cant put out the fire

Nice one Royce I remeber the battery coming loose in Fatzook one year at LCMP and throwing sparks for metres out the side of the bonnet
I run a 430CCA century battery in the ute.

Here is my Optima D34M in the standard location. Fits like a glove and kicks butt! (I run a Falcon 110A alternator to keep it charged).
Cheers,

whats the fascination with optima batteries?
they have fuck all a/hrs for the money so are useless for running fridges and so on and no zook will ever use its cca capacity (which any other cheaper agm can do anyway)

Nah it ain't missing, It just has nothing to operate. I put an extra one in and wired it so if I wanted to add something in the future it would be a matter of running the power and putting a relay in.
Which wire? the earth?

Well I don't know where you keep your fridge, or why you think a correctly chosen Optima would be a bad choice, but in 10 years time when you are on your 3rd or 4th battery, there is a good chance I will still be using this same battery.
For winching, Running lights, driving on the key, low self discharge, awesome vibration tolerance, and reliable high current delivery these are some of the best batteries available. In a zook, 1 Optima works better than most standard dual battery setups that I have seen.
I rekon they are worth every cent. When are you going to join the club Royce?

Ah, that one. Yeah I should add a fuse closer to the battery atm it goes to a circuit breaker just out of view... or move the circuit breaker closer.

I had a old battery in my GV, which i just replaced, as it would not hold its charge overnight, i suspect it was left discharged with low water in it, by the car dealer, for to long...
I just bought a new Super Charge, sealed, 500 CCA Battery, with a colour charge indicator, for a cool $120... i also just replaced the battery terminals, the standard ones were like 2mm steel, and just would not stop corroding, so i bought 2 new brass ones... all good now, starts very quickly...

Hmmm... doesnt look too safe to me... all added extra wires coming off the battery, should have a fuse or circuit breaker, before they go anywhere else !!!... and i would put that red wire, that goes across your firewall, and any others, inside some flexible, split conduit that you can get from any auto store for $10, it helps protect the wire, and is much safer !

We've used fullriver in industrial electronics applications and they are crap, despite being told they are "exactly the same" as Sonnenschein. They don't last.
I own two optimas, one of which is now very, very old. I have no reason to want to run any other battery - I's just one more thing I don't have to think about. We run them inside cars, on their side, in cars that are parked up for months - they just do the job. They're awesome.

how would your optima go in an industrial electronics application? wtf is that anyway are you a Terrorist?
I sold my sierra with a 40a/hr fullriver starting it 4 years ago, the battery was 3 years old then and is still going strong today, yeah I guess thats pretty shit

Unfortunately an optima won't fit in the application we need or that's what we'd be running- they're cheaper than Sonnenschein.
This shouldn't turn into a "my battery is tougher than yours thread" Lots of people have stories of how good their batteries are. My Father in law had 12 years out of the stock battery in his 190e Benz.
People who buy Optimas know there are alternatives that are cheaper.

Like always I am trying to seek information on what makes them so excellent, so that I may learn something and maybe make a more informed choice next time I need a battery
Like always people reply with things like they are just awesome, I suspect cause they dont really know they just have one cause somebody else has one, sometimes you get a small glint of an advantage which is usually countered with another product thats half the price and it becomes the typical nah we used them in the war and they were no good or some other baseless bullshit thats typical of the a small amount of knowledge is dangerous syndrome
so back to my original question, where is the advantage in a zook? the a/hr rating can easily be matched by cheaper batteries for heavy discharge applications (do optima publish a chart on effect of capacity vs discharge cycles?) the mounting options are easilly matched by the same batteries, the peak amp output is certainly excellent and there are numerous applications where that can be a deal maker like starting big Diesels and modified winches where youd otherwise need massive batteries that take up heaps of space but no zook will need that much peak current draw!!!

I just did some research on the Optima batteries, they are a dry Cell battery, which can sustain a hight charge rate that a normal lead acid Automotive battery, they are complety sealed so these is no chance of contamination and/or spillage, they also specify a high CCA and a good Amp/Hr rating. Warranty is for 3 years.
looking at the specs these are an excellant battery for 4x4 use. A lot better than the standard lead acis battery.
i managed a battery repair workshopfor a number of years and would have liked these then.

I got one of these in the Sierra:
http://www.absorbedpower.com/battery/pdf/GT12-55C.pdf
Supposed to be 450CCA, beats the hell out of me if thats good or not though either way it works fine, haven't flattened it yet . Its a dry cell also, which has some benefits over a wet cell battery, and these Absorbed power batteries are shitloads cheaper than most of the other dry cell batteries, and as a bonus its an Australian company . Only time I have faulted it, is when I tried to jump start Dad's Hilux with its massive 15B-F motor, didn't quite have the balls
