I looked at my tyres today and in between the tread there's more cracks than i've ever seen in a tyre... x 4 Not sure if it's safe or not driving with the tyres in this condition... i'm guessing not.

Before I die in a flaming wreck I guess I better put tyres on the priority list.

What's good for the road, sand and bush trails - in that priority? I'm not a hardcore 4x4er, so 33 inch muddies aren't gonna suit me too well. Most tyre posts seem to focus around muddies, but like i've said, they're not for me. Something good for the beach, getting to campsites, and probably most importantly - commuting.

Currently got BFG 215/70/15s (maybe 75s, can't rememeber) - they're good tyres, plenty of tread left, but no idea how old they are. Maybe I should just replace these?


I know nothing about tyres, so any advice appreciated.


Also - can I replace the smaller spare wheel with one of these BFGs? Not sure if the tyre mount will fit the size...

I was quoted $180ea and are reported to be a great all rund tyre which seems to be what your after.
Size is your choice, I run 30's comfortably under a stock sierra and previously a vitara, little bit of scrubbing on hard lock.

a mate of mine runs wrangler ATR's and they never miss a beat specialy on dirt tracks. im also keen to see how the new dura tracs go

maxxis bighorn or buckshot, best tyre ive had in all conditions especially sand.

Bfg km2. Are the tyre you want ..

Good on road and great off road.. Plus will have a wider range of sizes available. 225/70 or 75 are a good size

we throw an awful lot of sumoto serngetti all terrains on our caravan's which all most weigh twice as much as a zook nothing to wild pretty cheap we get their mud terrain in 31 by 10.5 for $160 so the all terrains would be pretty cheap our vans and campers head out all over aus haven't heard to many bad things bout them. the bfg have cracks in them cause they never where out they probably been on there for years and years.
