Don't worry, Joeblow lives off Suzuki's. 35's on lux's sound nice. Will be going bundys soon with 35's or more, as i am over suzuki diffs on 33's. break, twist, snap, seize. Buh!
you run diff gears...or just t/case gears?

Sierra's don't have rear CV's, but I've heard of a few people breaking and
twisting rear axles when running 33's.

I've seen them twist and break on 31's

Not sure about the CV's but I still run stock rear axles and have never had any problems.

i have ran my last 2 zooks on 31s with welded rear lockers and stock axles etc all round.Have never done a cv or any other damage. One zook had 5:12 gears the other had 6.5 tcase gears but i like to respect my gear, drive slow and only punch it if i have to.
Have also had mates on 31s,33s,35s etc on zook gear. One seemed to break it everytime he drove it on both 31s and 33s with welded lockers and another mate ran 6.1 case,5:12 diffs,33s on flipped 10 inch rims and twin arb lockers and never had any breakages. Two mates now have 35s,lux diffs and DD theres and love them.
just ask yourself why you want to go bigger??height, wank factor?strength?STABILITY??my main reason im thinking about lux/bundy at the moment is just for width and just because i want to try it and see if i can make it work. But in saying that im more than happy with zuk running gear with my driving style and the fact that id be changing a allready fully engineered car almost seems a waste.

I run 33's on LJ 80 Stockman rear axels and front inner axels with 1lt cv's, the cv's are the weak bit's.. But in 6 years Iv'e only broken 4 three of which were my own stupidity.

Yes, i only have stock 3.7's. And transfer gears.
That is probably a reason. Not enough reduction for the puny axles.
But the stuff i have seen that needs to be driven, i need a twin locked car, yes you can make it on twin locked on 33's with stock driveline(31zooks last effort was tops!) But how reliable is it going to be?
My front end has been awesome, on wide heavy 33's. But open centre. I am scared to lock it.
My rear, loves uni's, diffs, axles. I like to use every bit of the 1.6. Its my toy car so its going to get a thrashing.

You can run 33s or 34s on zook diffs if you strengthen the drive line, cromo axles and cvs and spread the gearing between diffs and transfer. i dont see the point in going to hilux diffs to run 35s, you would have much less ground clearance then a zook on 33/34s. it would only be worth while if you plan on +37s. just my 2c

My diffs will be shaved.

why does everyone keep saying you will have much less clearence with hilux diffs?
Is that info on outerlimits or something?
there's only 10mm difference?

Says the man with hilux diffs
Thats why shaving will get me back to normal, or more clearance!

I twisted the short side rear on mine, with 31's..... I blame the locker, open diffs FTW!!!!
..... seriously, I was really giving it too much when I first put the 1.6 in it, I have calmed down a little bit now.
Broke a standard front CV (long side) when open in the front too, but I blame another issue my Sierra has, which I still need to rectify (The steering stop bolts keep shearing the heads off, did it even before I had power steer , hence my CVs operate at too great an angle)
Steve, WRT diff clearance, I make it close to 15mm-ish when comparing my fathers Hilux and my WT (his has big 32's and mine 31's and we have about the same diff clearance, depending on tyre pressue...haha). But I think you get more 'effective' clearance with narrower track (works sort of like breakover angle with a long and short wheelbase).
IMO the biggest pain with Hilux diffs is the weight, they are bloody heavy pricks!!!

my measurements may not have been exact but looked like 10mm to me., so yeah maybe one tyres size if any? certainly not what some people may hear on the internet rumour forums and then state as fact somewhere else.
the weight would be an advantage in some cases though. They're bigger heavier, stronger, so in my opinion could possibly be better.
It seems people that have never tried hilux diffs don't like them, and the people that haven't tried chromoCVs don't like them?
If you want to keep your suzuki on the road and reasonably neat just get homo CVs. If you want to go a bit harder, get different diffs. I would rather be running 33s on hilux diffs than 33s on sierra diffs. The hilux diffs might hang up in spots, but i'll make it to the end of the track eventually, and without damage so i can just park it and forget it, while everyone with 33s on sierra diffs will be ringing their mates asking them to bring CVs and axles

I thought about homo cv's but if i want to strengthen the centres.. How? I've been through enough locked rears to know they are shithouse.

Yours is trailered, so you won't get the disadvantages of the extra unsprung mass on road. I look at it from the perspective that the car also has to behave reasonably well on road also. I'm not saying it won't, but unsprung weight is a bad thing. Also the mass would take a chunk out the vehciles "highway performance" I would imagine.
I'm not sure how much of an effect it would have on the nimbleness offroad?
I don't like using major "non-Suzuki" parts in my Suzukis......sort of like a Ford owner putting a 308 Holden motor in there car . This has absolutely no technical foundation..... Its just me being a fuss-pot

with regard to wheel track, everyone gets big offset wheels on their sierra diffs so end up close to hilux width anyway
My total width has remained the exact same, from sierra diffs to hilux diffs.

There was a guy called Norm on here, He had a army green zook, lux diffs, 35's,1.6,vit box and transfer.
His kept up with mine from the lights.(Bal1.6,sierra box, 6.5's ,33's) So they are still good if geared correctly.

Yes. I have +28 15x8's on stock wt diffs, alot of people comment how wide it is.. Metal flares, and 3" flare rubber

Comparing the unsprung mass of a sierra diff to a hilux diff on a shoebox with cart springs front and rear and no sway bars is like saying my Donkey is faster than your Goat

well yeah you can't have everything i guess. I think a sierra should just have 235s on standard offset, for good on and offroad performance.

That's what I've been running for years. I regularly wheel with another Zook on Hilux diffs and 35's, both have advantages and disadvantages.
He can get through deeper, sloppier bog-holes than I can. Where as I can drive steeper, scarier side-angled stuff.
In any case, we both make it to the end of the track anyway
Oh - and I've never been defected
