Mate, for $800 you aren't gonna get much in the way of a Sierra....

if he is accepting something as far back as 81 than he would easily be able to pick up a reasonable sierra fo $800. 1L's don't sell for too much.. keep your eye out and they do come up

Good luck to ya mate. I picked up an '85 drover soft top for $850, no rego or rust. Battery was dead, because the alternator was also, and it took 1 an a half years of looking but that didn't stop me. They're out there. Just keep a lookout everywhere; papers, online, side of the road etc etc.
Keep it up,
Ryan.

I just sold a 89 hard top with no motor, no interior, no fron end, no transfer, no doors, and the body is rusted for not much less than that. $800 won't get you much nowadays.

Cheers Ryan & Zook_Fan,
my mate got a 1L 85 drover for about $500 it was in pretty rough form when he got it full of spiders n junk like that but hardly any body rust. With a little bit of TLC hes got it up and running and its a lil beast. i know it can be done.

I went to a clearance sale yesterday & there was a 1980 Stockman there,
wagon type
I hadnt had rego since 2003, what I would consider as below average condition, no structual rust but a lot of patches of surface rust, no door panels, roof lining, standard AM radio
Positive side it did have a toyota motor & 5 speed, nobody knew how long ago it had been fitted but it did start ok & didnt blow any smoke
I took a guess & thought it would go for around $8-900,
Auctioner started at 2K but no takers
1 bidder called $900 then went up in $100 bids & sold for $1500
Most comments were that it was sold cheap & the new owner got a bargain
The origional poster may find something around the $800 mark but will have to be quick & not to expect a lot for his $$

thats another negative. If you are prepared to wait you WILL get a lot for around $1000. I know he said $800 but still its not that much more. I picked up a 1990 WT sierra that needed almost nothing for roadworthy for fuck all. Just got to be keen and have the cash ready to go cos when they come up they go quick. Two weeks ago I went to look at a 88 NT hardtop. It was pretty tidy and a few mods but had an engine conversion so it was no good for me but they were only after $600 for it. Everyone that is saying you won't get anything for that cheap obviously have never had to work with a tight budget. That being said you probably won't get too lucky on these sort of sites, people that come to these places no what stuff is worth. You need to be looking through your local traders, newspapers, any published free advertising in your local area. That is where you will find a bargain.

I picked up a lwb sierra 1.3 for only 1100 with 6 months rego. Only took 2 weeks of watching internet car sales ads. I was in the right place at the right time. Just get lucky and wait.

Yeah forget about the negative comments and look in the weekend papers, local papers, keep your eyes open for unreg ones in peoples yards etc.
In the last 12 months I have found:
(this does not include any of my own LJ's)
4 x LJ's (all soft top 3 x 80s 1 x 50)
1 x 1300 NT soft top
1 x 1 litre hard top
1 x LWB Sierra complete running
1 x LWB Sierra complete but in pieces (pulled apart for a rebuild)
1 x spare LWB Sierra incomplete
Only one was advertised, the rest were word of mouth or seen by me in yards, paddocks, etc and I went in and enquired.
One was free, one was $50, the dearest was $700.
Most have now had the once over and I have found them new homes.
I currently know of 3 other Suzuki's under $1000, 2 running one not and from what I understand want33s has no trouble finding them either, he is buying them regularly and wrecking them out.
