Had my jimny for 13000 km's taken it on the beach once to fraser island and afterwards extensively cleaned it. MY brake pads have worn out so i took it in to get them replaced and ive been getting a grinding scratching noise when starting. They say that the front brake pads and rotors have been rusted through from sand build up. and going to cost 579.00 to replace. They also suspect the grinding noise whilst starting is because the starter motor is full of sand? to replace 1177.73 ?
Does the components actually rust this fast? and how does the starter motor get sand in it ? if so can you clean it somehow? Thanks guys!

new reduction starter motor to suit jimny is $190 from suzi auto services in slacks creek 3208 4510
youll find that sierra & vitara rotors will fit your Jimny and wont cost more than 120 for the pair.
Can you describe the grinding noise? perhaps take a video with your phone and youtube it?

i would shop around mubby that sounds really expensive. i highly doubt the brake rotors have rusted though, they are solid steel!

Wow!
Expensive stuff if you can't replace them yourself!
Suzuki seems to be ripping you a new one!

Yeah im taking it to a few mechanics to get some quotes but it sounded realy expensive. But it seemed wierd that all this stuff is going wrong and rusting in such a short time. But thanks for the opinions its good to get other peoples thoughts. Thats a big difference in starter motors, 120 buks to 1000 ha ! ill have to go check it out. Thanks!

My lil Suzi is a beach baby, I do wash her now and then, but as she is full of rust already, its not high on the agenda, brakes, perfect as far as i know, had her 3 years or so now, on the beach a few times a week, and starter, did replace that but it was from burnt out poles, common.
Id say someone is having a go at ya, the cost is astronomical to say the least.

How mechanicall minded are you?
A starter is a few wire disconnected, and 2 bolts (on g motors anyway)
To change pads and discs, it one of the most simpler jobs. I'd be looking in the rear drums also.
