Just wondering how much oil you all go through... best to provide engine type for a true comparison.

Currently mines doing about 500ml per 2000km - 1.6L EFI in a sierra.

(i am getting tell tale signs of valve stem seals leaking too though - ie: puff of smoke on startup after a long rest).

Most manufacture's say that 1lt per 1000 km is not worth stripping down, but that could be to save them having to pay for the rebuild..

Honda S200's are spot on 1lt per 1000. That's 10lt of oil in between service's & Honda only oil. 8O 8O 8O 8O

with my busted sump its used half the oil getting back to my place (a few 10's of kms). tightened the sump bolts and did one a little too much and snapped the head off the bolt. and its still leaking. getting a mechanic to look at it tomorrow.

^^ bugger - told you not to do it too tight =)

who reckons based on the following mines got buggered stem seals:
- small plume of smoke on a cold morning (not too bad)
- very thick smoke starting up at lunchtime (after driving to work - thick enough to make you cough if you cop it in the face).
- minor oil usage over 2000km (ie: about 500ml).

I've not noticed smoke under load so im not thinking its rings. This engine is only 5000km old.. the head is 10,000km old - but im wondering if the new head had new valve stem seals in it (or a bad batch installed).

Mine G13B has just had its 6000km service (last service was at 1000km) and hadn't lost any that I could tell - still up to 'full' mark on dipstick.

Will watch it carefully over our upcoming trip though because now that I've got more than 5000km on it I've switched from 10W-40 mineral oil to 10W-40 synthetic.

I would be surprised if the valve guides weren't stuffed too, no way you can call that head new

i havent noticed any oil usage in my sierra in the 5000kms its done since i last replaced the oil in it, its got exactly 225,000 on it as of tonight. far as im aware, its never been rebuilt, but it apparently had the head replaced once or twice by previous owner (found that out AFTER i had purchased it )

more than likely stem seals. if your stopped at lights for a while and then take off does it blow a puff of smoke? id jus take it back to suzistore and get them to fix it! they should i mean uv spent a shitload of cash with em.

yup - thats not an issue - theyre keen to find out what it is also... i just thought i'd ask what everyone else is getting as a real world comparison.

Not getting a puff on takeoff that i know of - although i doubt i'd be able to see it. Got another 3000km before next service is due - so time will tell.

My lil girl looses oil out of the dizzy hole, so no idea of how much if any that the motor goes thru, about 0.5l every 5,000k.

As mine does not blow any smoke, at any rev range or load range, id say she uses none at all. Mobil 1
