hey guys my spotties died on me

i have had them on for 18 months no problems

turned them on as i was showing the missus how far they light up turned them off and then tried to turn them on a minute later and nothing

i checked the fuse under the dash for the spotties and it is fine

i checked both fuses for the head lights and they are fine

i can hear a clicking noise when i flick the switch also

unsure what to check next?

any thoughts guys?

Check the following:

Earth is good
Relay isn't fried
Globes aren't blown
Switch hasn't died
All wiring connections

Thats about all i can think of, your relay should always click.. So don't think that it's definantly the problem just because of it

globes replaced only the other weekend on one of the lights

how do i check the relays? im not electrically minded

a multi meter should be able to give u some indacation as to if ur relay is working properly or not

id say relay m8 u said how to check them ..well u could disconect the relays and conect the wires togher with out the relay in the middle if that makes any sence i think the relay is a small black box that acts as a fuse ...and relay ..but u could by pass it by diconecting it ...and retaching the right wires ...sorry long time since i put the spots in my car correct me if ur wrong ... a other idea u could diconect the spots and run the wires straight to the battery c if they are working ...my best advice take to a car sparky he will prob figger it out in 2 min flat .. and only cost 50 $

have you checked the halogen fluid?

seriously grab a test light & check all connections, it will be something simple like a dirty earth or a dead relay. as you were saying they were working before.

I would drop into SuperCheap and grab a $20 MultiMetre.. And grab a new relay at the same time, cost ya $5 tops.. if it didn't need the new relay, gives you and excuse to have double spots... duh I had a spare $5 relay floating around - so I bought $800 set of lights

I have had relays that only work 1 way up too, swing em over on their side and they start to play up.

the click is probably the relay clicking

how do you have the fuse for the spotties under the dash? normally that line would run from teh battery to pin 30 or 87 on the relay

have a look at the relay and get somebody to help by flicking between high and low beam whole you hold the relay so you can confirm its clicking on and of, thats a good start, next get a test light and check you have power from teh battery at either pin 87 or 30, if you dont then track back to the battery to see whats stopping it, like another fuse.

If you do then check you have power coming on on the other of those 2 terminals when the lights would normally come on, if you dont its likely the relay, if you do next run down to your lights and see if you have power coming on there, if you dont its the wiring somehere if you do next see if you have power on the EARTH wire from your lights, if you do your earth needs fixing if you dont its time to look in the lights for blown bulbs or something

that clicking is the relay, which to me suggests that its fine. doesnt mean it isnt the problem, but definitely get a multimeter. i got a crappy one for $10 from supercheap, but its helped me solve a few electrical gremlins so far. best bet is to start at the bulb, the two wires at the bulb, test them to see if theyre getting power with the switches on, then work backwards from there...

Mystery FIXED guys

got a call at work to say my headlights where left on wrong my head lights where not on but somehow my spotlights where ON!!!!! must have leftt he switch on

so the Mystery not working spotties NOW work however no freaking idea as to why they stopped for 3 weeks

each light has a seperate earth so not likely thats the problem really confused ohwell they work now WOOHOO
