Getting a wierd vibration through my car at idle. Best way yo describe it is if you held a vibrating phone up to a hollow steel drum. It vibrates for a few seconds, then goes away, then comes back again and so fourth.

Anyone had this issue before? I'm running a 1.6EFI vit engine... thinking it may be the fuel pump? I'm not sure though.

Any help would be really appreciated.

are you hearing the vibration or are you feeling the vibration?

from what you are describing, it sounds like the exhaust rattling against the chassis or body.

When you're describing this, what is the car doing? is it idling? My car used to do that when idling, and the rpm dropped down slightly, then stopped rattling when the ecu picked up the rpm again... and it kept repeating itself... fixed it by getting a steel hose clamp and clamping the exhaust to the chassis - i'll fix it properly when i get my new exhaust system.

I dont think the exhaust is doing it but i will look into it. Its only when i'm idling, once i take off its gone... I can hear it and feel it when i'm sitting there.. havent listnened to it from outside the car yet...

It seems to do it more after i fill the tank...

If it what i think it is, both mine and my dads do it. its the high pressure fuel pump. I will have a listen for you on the weekend and let ya know

Yeh, its comming from the back and i know the pump is mounted to the body (which is what the vibration is coming through)

Is this bad or is it just the pump doing its job?

they do that. or atleast mine and dads both do.

does yours have an in tank vitara pump as well or just the high pressure pump?

Couldnt tell you hey, Daniel did all of it himself (or got it like that) and i wouldnt know what i'm looking for... We can have a look at it friday, it doesnt sound like i should be too worried though.

if it is the fuel pump, when you turn the key to ignition just before you start the car. it will run and make a similar noise for about 3 seconds. yes?

More of a whine but yeh, i can here it when i turn to ignition... doesnt vibrate though.
