Probably a lot cheaper and easier, with more power to boot, a G16B

I dont think a G16B is alot cheaper than getting a mild cam for the 1.3 as the question asked.....

do a search both here and on outers... theres a thread somewhere with about 90% of people agreeing the cam made stuff all difference for what it cost and that a good exhaust system will achieve more.

$1000 for a rebuild kit is asking a fair bit, don't know where you get your kits from but that is about $400 more than the last one that i bought which included new oversized pistons and rings. $200 or so or a NEW cam but you would get a regrind for about $70 and all rebuild kits that I have got have included rocker kits. so all up for that, without engine work, i would budgetting around $800, maybe a bit more.
31zook has recently spent a bit of cash rebuilding his engine and he likes the gains. Yes you might get lucky and get a 1.6L for $600 but that is not the only cost. You need to adapt it to your gearbox, $200, if you don't know how to wire it it is going to cost a shit load more and then you still need to get it compliance, around $100. so all up you are looking at a minimum of around $1000 for a 1.6L conversion and you are getting off pretty lightly if that is all it costs.

Or be like me, get a LWB thats engineered with a 1.6 for $600.
There are things around if you shop.

lol bitch, I knew you would come in here. Mate, still hangin to pick it up, work is not letting the old owner an me time off together to go get it.
He has sold the block, settlement is in just under a month, and he has a lot of gear still there, so it will be soon, don't want to take time off, but may have to.
I have lots for the build, still some coming.

Yes surprisingly with the 'everyone says its wayyy to big' spiel the weber does give a healthy improvement throughout the rev range. I was also quite impressed with the gains down low when i ran one on the 1.3.

my rebuild with new pistons set me back around 650 but i had everything i needed to reseat valves, hone the block, lift the engine out etc if you don't have everything for the job or you have to send the block to get acid bathed or bored or anything else you can run into a lot more dollars. Thankfully i didn't need a new cam either. Had i known then what i know now i would have probably gone the 1.6 but i'm guessing you would need a new exhaust as well. Either way it all costs money, i just see the gains of the 1.6 more worth the effort.

I spent 3.5G on my rebuild, gypsy cam, tuned and i did everything apart from the dyno and machine work myself. NIK has a 1.6 and says mine puts out more power. I got my stock carby jetted and rebuilt, not aure which one did what but im more then happy. tho if someone wants my carby ill happily trade it for a swift TBI setup.... man i hate carbies still...

i have been looking at cams too but it also depends on ya carb ya running etc age of engine on what sot of gains u are going to get i spent (lucky me) fuck all on my quad ands seriously every1 that drib=ves my car thats owns a 1.3 cant get ova the responce of the carbs
yes its a head fuck and trial and error but damn once i finish them off properly they will be putting out 50+kws at all 4s out of a stock 1.3 with extractors and exhaust would like to see how a cam would improve it

 peaceout

I think the choice is this, you can buy a cheap secondhand 1600 that you don't know the history of, it may be full of corrosion, have a weeping head gasket, been overheated, have a cracked block, burnt valves, worn bearings and broken rings, but you wont know that until you have wasted time, effort and cash doing the conversion and fitting it. Or you could rebuild the engine that you have and end up with a reliable fresh engine that you can trust.
SuziBlu the fact that you are buying a LWB already converted to 1600, may be why you have no idea what the conversion will cost to do. I can guarantee you that you will not do a 1600 conversion from scratch buying everything at normal costs for what you can rebuild your 1300 for.

Even if the cost is similar, or even a bit more, surely if your chasing power, the bigger, longer stroke donk is the better deal ??

If the cost was similar and if the engine had a known history and low k's yes. What 2 stroker was pointing out is your comparing an unknown second hand 1.6 donk to a fully rebuilt fresh 1.3. You can get lucky and pick up bargains here and there on 1.6's like you seem to have (I have also) but again you don't know its history.
The 1.3's although they love to rev are still a solid little motor and with a few mods they really do get up and go.
omysierra what are the specs on your car? tires, gearing etc?
