ordered a h/d button exedy clutch today for mky sierra. has anyone ever had one. how harsh are they?

ive got the exedy hd full plate clutch on my turbo'd 16v 1600 and it works great, a button clutch is too harsh for a sierra, what engine are you running to require this???

I'm running 135hp ATW's with 33's with no slip

i just have a rebuilt 1.3 lol. spoa 33's, 6.5 transfer gears, currently looking for a 1.6. so i just bought the button and i can use it later wen i have the 1.6.

1.6 has nowhere near enough power to be worrying about a button clutch with 6.5s and 33s!

Well they're either shit cheap clutches, incorrectly installed or poor driving...

A H/D clutch will be fine.. You might end up with a left leg like the Hulk, but you'll get use to it.

The only problem, Is the colour.... It's umm a bit ghey..

im a mechanic, so not shit installs, how can u posably stuff up installing a clutch, and there exedy clutches, although i've only just put the transfer gears in so maybe the extra strain from the tyres and bad gearing is the cause

i thought that might be the case, but i had the chance to get the button clutch cheap so i thought i may aswell give it a go

It's worth a try, but i think you will find it annoying, thay are in or out, that's it, don't like to be slipped..

If that is the case your other clutches must have just been eaten by moths

Button clutches are not designed for 4x4ing, far to harsh, they are on or off, you need to be able to feed in power to negotiate obstacles.

Anyway it is done now so tell us how it goes.

Tall gearing/high load (that means big tyres with stock gearing) will murder clutches.

I have a 1.0litre sized clutch (trust me, it's tiny) and a regularly clutch dump at over 6000rpm, sometimes on the limiter - 7500rpm with 35" tyres. At those revs I'm producing as much power and torque as a 1.3, at least.

I have 6.5:1 transfer gears and 5.12 diffs. and I've never had clutch problems (until sunday, where I filled it with mud so badly it won't drive or engage at all)

But a stock 1.0 with 30" tyres can destroy a clutch in a day.

Now you are geared right the clutch should last fine. If it doesn't last, you've either filled it with mud or you are a hack driver. I don't mean aggressive - I'm really aggressive with my car when required - but if you're hack it's possible to destroy anything.

i thought i remembered reading once before you were on 33s and no gearing,but now that you have that sorted you will find you are good to go .

my zuk had a half worn out clutch when i went from 1.3 to the 1.6 efi but money and time was tight at the time so i put it in.I have 6.5s and 31s and it has never shown to be a problem since on road and expecially off.Once when i had to recover a vehicle it got a bit slippy though.
Surely you wont wreck another one,can you do a swap on a normal HD tho?

i've already ordered this clutch and put a deposit on it. so i may aswell give it a go and see wat its like. it turns up tomorrow and i'll put it in tomorrow night. as long as the boys dont come round and drink to much beer anyway. lol

clutch is in. went out today and the clutch is awesome. and so are the 6.5 gears. it goes nearly anywhere
