Mate, that's a Wide Track, leaf sprung Sierra. Nice car in good condition
by the looks of it. Coil sierras came out after June 1996 and stopped
production June 1998. coilys have a strut front suspension set up and
the jimnys have a seperate coil/shock combo.

Sorry, I should stop skim reading posts. 2001 would of been Jimny, should
have a seperate coil and shock on the front. There are lots of small
differences between the two chassis.

Dobinsons do a 80mm lift for the coily, it's an order only item but you will
need custom struts as well. The most you can by off-the-shelf is
40mm lift give or take a lil, I run a combination of Jimny and Coily coils,
with the correct shocks it flexs really well. If you only want to run 31's, I'd
advise you just to go with the 40mm suspension lift and find yourself a 50mm
body lift. Most people run this set up or variants of and it works very well. Especially
with a locker or two. Hope that helps mate.

Thanks mate sounds easier and cheaper to go a 40mm suspension lift, the car already runs a 50mm body lift. Do you know what the diff are like for strength, as in will they cope with running the 31's and can you get the diff re-geared? Just had a look at a few pics of your rig, very nice mate love the bar work.

Cheers mate, you can re-gear the diff, but it is easier to chase up a WT
transfer case and put some reduction gears into that and put the whole case
in the car. You will need the WT case as they are gear driven, the coily/jimny
transfers are chain driven. Go for the 40mm suspension lift
and see how you go for clearance, I run the 40mm lifted front coils
(sagged to buggery) and my 30's lightly scrub at max flex.

It won't be a jimny chassis. Unless the chassis has been HIGHLY modified (ie. shortened) as the jimny is about 200mm longer in wheelbase than a sierra.

Can you take some photos of the chassis and suspension for us?

Well I was going of the info the seller provided at the time of purchase, knew i should've never trusted a Nissan owner! The front shockies are in the centre of the coil and the coil rests on a lower lip on the shock and goes up to the tower retainer. The car is registered as a 96 body on a 2001 chassis and has been given a new chassis number by the Transport authorities... I think there been a bit of fibbing on the forms! From what i have found so far it looks like a sierra coil chassis. I will post up some pics tomorrow when there is more light and not as cold!

I think what you will find is that the body is from a 95 model, the chassis is from a 96-98 model, but the surrogate chassis number was issued in 2001 when the body was swapped on, making it a 2001 chassis number. Both the chassis and body are older than this. I garantee it.

so the coily body was rusted out, and they chucked a cheaper and easier to find WT body on it and re-registered it in 2001? Sounds like a lot of effort.

Dobinsons make an approx 80mm lift for the coilys, they will also make
custom struts to suit, most dealers don't keep these in stock but are
available by order only, and cost around the $400 mark for coils. Not
entirely sure on the cost of the struts. A few issues back there was a
white coily in there with this lift, worked bloody awesome. Dobinsons will
also make a 'Flexy' coil for the Coilys aswell but is order only. Check out
suspension stuff down at springwood, they have a set of coils in stock
at the moment, well until I get there...

Lift it that much (80mm) And be prepared for wobbles from incorrect camber/caster.

ah ok mate well it starting to make much more sense now. At least i know what it is now. And yes Alien it is a frankenzuk indeed. Now to start modding it!
