rather than fit off so many points, why not just run a bus bar system along the length of the shed?

I did one a few years ago here and it was fantastic, you just plug in whatever you want wherever you want. The eaton ones have tap in points every foot! This factory was to display computerised milling and lathes etc, so they needed the flexibility.

Hardest part of that job was making the brackets to hold it up thanks to the design of the factory the standard mounts were too close to the wall, I had to weld up, and rotohammer then mount about 40 brackets.

What sort of internet are you going to run , if you have cable in your area some coax would have a faster speed. Also your mains will have to be large enough for your shed and house load , then smaller to the shed , you'll need a 3 phase safety switch to protect mains and avoid losing the house power if you have a problem in the shed , Cheers Paul.

Might put another safety switch in the shed just to be sure. Not sure we'll have cable most in that area is still just ADSL 1. When I buy the cable I'll make it big enough to run from the street to the house and supply that to the sparky whilst he's running it back.

Bus bar is a bit flash for me though.

I know everyone is trying to help, but in all reality, if I turned up to do a job and the customer told me what size cable he wanted run to his shed (without him being a sparkie) it would give me the shits.
The sparkie had a bunch of calcs to run to determine the correct minimum size, which will take into account the machinery involved, the distance of the run and the mains to the property.

By all means dig the trench (500mm deep for submains) yourself.

Without us all knowing the exact details, we are all pissing in the wind.

I would also like to state for the record that I am fucking jealous of this shed.

dig the trench yourself but if it was me i wwul dig it as deep as i could. 500mm is the minimum cover above the conduits so dig it at least 700mm. Let the sparky figure out the cable size then ask for the next size up. (Allows for future upgrades if needed.) also during building install solar panels and you will save a heap on your power bills.

As I said I'm overkilling it alot.

Understand the comments about the guys in the trade knowing what to do and getting pissed by someone was doesn't. I'm really trying to work out costs etc. Got a quote today for 100m of 35mm 4core and earth, good thing i was sitting down $2700 for the cable. 25 was $1900.

Solar was one the list untill I got a quote for the house. Might have to get a smaller system or less panels then planned with the bigger inverter to add more panels later.

I know this will definately start somehing so I apologise now. Research actual costs of solar systems and the actual cost you will be paid back. That is all I'm gong to say.

yeah I know, but everyone uses today's power costs too, not what they will be in 2, 5 or 10 years time. Any forecast longer then 3 years is going to be a long way off the actual, not saying the payback will be 3 years just saying the price of electricity in 3 years will shock you.

go straight for a 10kw dont worry about the price it doesnt matter.
with the 60 cent buy back it will pay itself off before the 7 years is over an then it fee power for the next 10-20 years

The 60 c buyback is only in NSW, and only guaranteed for another 6 or so years.
JC is in QLD, where their buyback is way less - Solar is only really affordable in NSW at the moment.
I just installed a 3kw system, cost me $9000 out of pocket.
It will be paid off inside 4 years, and I get a cheque every quarter for about $200-250, as well as cancelling out the amount I use.

Copper prices have risen dramatically over the last 10 years - When I was an apprentice I could buy a roll of 2.5 t&e for $65, then within 3 years it was over $100 a roll, it is now about $120-130 I believe.

If you have money to burn then go a larger cable, but if you are drawing that much your house mains are going to be upgraded, then you are up for more money again.
