G'day guys,
if you've been thinking about a winch for your zook, hold off for a bit. Tigerz are making noises about bringing out a new 6000lb model.
It's going to RRP for around the $650 mark by all reports. Not many specs on it yet, but we'll see how it all pans out and I will update this thread as I get more info.

Interesting the 6000lb winch.
What are the Tigerx products like ? They look OK but whats the working life like, durable and tough enough to do the job.
Have other members got them and use them.
I'd be interested to hear some reports.

Why bother with a 6000lb unit when 9500lb winches are available WITH synthetic rope for around $650 and weigh bugger all more?

Because in theory the 6000lb winch should be 50% faster under light load, where 90% of winching takes place if you have a well setup car.
I have no interest in a slow 9500lb winch, but I could be convinced to run a fast 6000lb winch.

If its not a comp is there a need for speed? yes it might mean you get a bit more wheeling done in a day but for normal wheeling isn't reliability a much bigger issue than speed?

I'd rather the 6Klb winch with synthetic rope. Think of the weight saving over a 9500lb with steel cable!
And on the 6000lb and suzukis topic,
Many years ago some mates and I entered a team into the logan challenge (5 sierra team). We had one winch (M6000 Warn) and most cars were locked. On one hill climb, the first car up (one with winch) had to pull 2 sierras with smoking clutches, and one sierra ( mine) with 2 broken transfercase mounts up the very steep hill single line pull whilst all teathered together!! . We all had varying amounts of drive, but the 6000lber did the job.
If you were dead pulling bogged patrols from goopy mud pits I would think a 9500lb woyld be the go (other than for telling the to fuck off ) but otherwise a 6k winch is heaps for a sierra/ jimny/ SWB vit.
JMO

My company distributes Tigerz11 gear but I'm not allowed to advertise here! Yet anyway.
Being a zook driver, I've been at tigerz11 to bring in a solid 6000lber. I was just talking to him tonight about the features and bits we'd want on them. That price for around the $650 mark would include synthetic rope, but I have found out that he was looking at something similar to the T-Max winch in size at about 450mm long with about 24m of synthetic rope which isn't too bad.
This would mean that it wouldn't have the same bolt pattern than a standard Warn would have making fitment to any commercial bar for a zook a pain in the butt so I'm trying to push the same bolt pattern which means a larger winch all up but ease of fitment.
What are your thoughts? Would you rather a smaller winch which would mean having to redrill the winch mounting plate or a larger bodied bolt on winch which would probably have slightly larger rope capacity as well.
Here's your chance to have some direct input into the development of a winch almost solely for you guys, the zook drivers!
(As with 4H, I used to work for them, He owes me and 2 pages of creditors alot of money. Basically, a drop ship, pay upon ordering style of business shouldn't have any problems with sound financial management.)

Smaller winch, but I can fab my way around the bolting pattern issues. Others may not be so keen.

[quote="bonsai"]Interesting the 6000lb winch.
What are the Tigerx products like ? They look OK but whats the working life like, durable and tough enough to do the job.
Have other members got them and use them.
My mate has the biggest tigers which on his cruiser, it has failed and he has only used it 3 times, once really to recover himself and the other2 just to give it a small work out to keep everything moving. He now has to remove the control box and send it back for repairs, he is not happy. It is approx 3 months old. Also the wireless remote has never worked

I have liked the idea of a smaller, lighter, faster winch like the 9.0RC and had thought about cutting down a lowmount to be similar. As there is generally something pretty close by to winch from and the obstacles not that long to get past, having less rope is not that big an issue and you can always carry an extra rope extension if need be.
I have been to Tigerz place a couple of times and would happily buy his product. He is constantly developing and improving his product.

I'd prefer smaller too. but making it so it still fit's a std ARB but just with re-drilling will help with general sales however

Worst case senario.... I have a ARB bar on my ute, I could always make an adaptor cradle if need be.

I was more referring to your average joe that has to buy the adaptor cradle. which would then mean he might not look at this winch as a valid option. But if all he had to do was bribe a mate into redrilling a couple of hole's It'd be realistic.

If its a quality winch, with a realistic weight saving over its competitors, and comes with syth rope and its only $650, I recon it sells itself.
Drilling holes is a no brainer.

I use to have a tigerz11 1200Ib winch on my zook.I have used it a few times on the trails and once in a winch comp. It worked great but was to slow for the comps. On the other hand without time limits it was great I now have a warn higmount with a 6hp upgrade. I dont see what the big deal is with 6000 Ib winches. I wanted a 9500Ib tigerz but at the time they only did a 12000Ib which weighed 23 Kg with plasma. a warn xd900 weighs about 35-36 with wire. They now make heaps of sizes. Id buy another one

i've owned many 6000's over the years and will never go back to them. the larger 8's and 9's that i now use are way better.
