yeah that's what I thought. It's through bungalow wreckers up here and they have some sort of parts sourcing network.

Mitchy,

These steel diffs sound like they are geting pretty scarce, so it is a sellers market. It seems to me that you have got two choices:
1. Get a second hand alloy diff complete with the housing you broke which will set you back about $300 from somebody like http://www.suzisport.com/ and be gentle with reverse gear in future.
2. Spend the money to upgrade your diff for $900 plus any fitting charges.

So you can buy 3 alloy diffs for the price of one steel one.

Only you can decide how to spend your money, but you might get a heap more wheeling done with a 2nd hand alloy part than what you have over the last few months chasing used parts that are closely related to hens teeth.

Maybe you could get the car on the road on the cheap and keep an eye out for he right part at the right price. Might not cost you more than the $900 you have been quoted and you'd be back on the road.

Cheers

yes decisions decisions but I think I might just get the steel one then but I'd like to hear a few other quotes first though... I can still drive at the moment but I'm really itching to get muddy!

So another question cos I still haven't got a diff on order even...
Do I need to replace 'the guts' of the steel diff that I get with the ones from my car now? Or would it be ok to get one with 4.3 ratio and just do a straight swap?
Thanks again.
Btw my brother might be able to weld it but it still goes no probs in 2wd now so I'm just gonna wait a while longer...

You'll have to swap the guts as your ratios must match front and rear.

Ok so I can't wait for the diff, I need a quick fix. I'm thinking of getting my brother to do up one of those straps that was mentioned earlier. Anyone done it or got any ideas? How about this? Bolt a strip of bent steel to the cross member with steel plates? Would putting a thin strip of rubber on the inside of the strap be a good idea?
Thanks.
