Hey all,

I just took the zook out for a run up the street before for the first time and its nice and smooth right up until about 50k's and then it starts the get the speed wobbles in the steering.

Now im just trying to think of what could be causing the wobble in the steering...it feels like its in the front end....


My thoughts where a bent rim maybe? whats your thoughts?

Um try replacing all your bushes in the front and rear, wheel bearings, king pins, check steering link ends, and tighten up the front nut on the stock steering box. If this don't fix it then go for a wheel alignment.

Why not start at a wheel alignment/balance first? Or even still try rotating your tires/rims front to rear and see if it makes any difference.

a bad wheel alignment can cause a wobble in the steering? come to think of it the steering when was not straight when i was driving (it was nearly 90 degrees!)

mine does that when the tyres are not all at equal pressure with in 5 psi also happened when i lost some balancing wieghts that clip on out in the bush also if ur car has been sitting fopr a while with old tyres they can deform

good old death wobbles

tyre pressure,unbalanced tyres,loose front wheel bearing as mine were when it was real bad,stuffed steering box,worn bushes.could be a heap of little things

i got a feeling it could be a combo of tire pressure and wheels not being balanced

If it goes away when you accelerate past that speed its those weights on your wheels.. happened to mine a few weeks back

lol im having trouble getting it up to 60! its not the quickest car in the world

had it before and every time it was a wheel balance. do it soon otherwise it can wreck other stuff like bearings etc if its not them in the first place.

okay so i drove it up a good length of road today and got it up to 60, the wobble isnt even noticeable now that i have driven it properly, it feels like a wheel balance is in order and that i need to do up the nut on my steering box.

Anyone got a pic of what i should be looking for when i have to do this nut up on the steering?

i found half of the problem today.....the steering dampener didnt have a nut on it and the bracket for the steering dampener only had one bolt and nuts on it, so there was alot of play, the other minor wobble i believe is the wheels themselves...or it just might need an alignment

I had the same issue,

Mine turned out to be a broken belt in the tyres.
It kept getting the wobbles, then going away. Then get worse at faster speeds, then go away again.

Then it let go at 100km on a freeway. Now thats an interesting experience.

If your tyres are old, and/or been damaged suggest you look at them too.
Steering dampener may be some of the problem.

If it was out of balance wheeles, it would do it every time, and also would get worse as you drive faster.

I went for a wheel alignment and when i was told that all the steering crap in my lwb was so loose that a wheel alignment would do nothing for my death woobles. i replaced everything and you should just go and replace all the parts that wear out quickly on a car anyway...
