hmm but physicaly...
will a g16a head bolt to a g16b
will a g16b bolt up to a g16a bellhousing mounts.
will a carbie manifold bolt sraight up to a 16b?

I think the bell housing pattern is the same, ie will bolt to the same gearboxes. I dont think the head patterns are the same, and im not sure why you would wanna bolt a carby head to an efi block

I have 16valve G16a at home so thats incorrect
I dont know the exacts of it all but may be something to do with years like the G13a and G13b
afaik its all mostly interchangeable

G16A = Made in Japan actual. ( surely isnt number of cams or valves) G16B = Made overseas (not Japan)
The 16V DOHC swift GT , had forced everything: pistions, rods, and crank. The non GT has nothing forged. The G16A heads are weaker. The G16B crank has counterweights on each lobe , unlike the 2 ends of the former. Better crank. The Crank and cam are hollow, on many. ( so called weight savings).
The back of the bock is marked G16A and has no meaning at all , A or B. The vehicle will have a plate showing the truth. A or B. Same plate as color code and veh. weight. The engine serial number will say G16B too , if it is. The G16A /B bocks can have a number of different pistions, 2 or 4 dish valve slots. All regular G16A/B engines have weak cast rods, (except GT variant). (Turbo issue). All G series blocks are very strong, thanks to their pressure die cast design and webbing.

The G16B 16V SOHC head has more casting webbing than the G16A SOHC head has, all heads are essentially interchangable between the G13A/B G15A and G16A/B as the bore variation is so minor, the G13B 16V head is the same head found on the G16A/B; it even has the same Casting numbers in it, from the molds used.

Most refer to the 8v carby engine as a G16A and the 16v efi engine as aG16B even though you can find G16A on the 16v block. As mentioned the 16v has a better balanced crank and the pistons are different to suit 4 valves per cylinder instead of 2.
