Has anyone out there got the fitting instructions for a Milford Cargo barrier into a '97 LWB Vitara?

I got one in good nick off a bloke a while back but there are no fitting instructions with it. I've been told there is a bit of stuffing around with drilling into the roof frame etc ???

ARB said it would take about 4 hours to fit @ $80 per hour .... which equals over twice the price I paid for it

4hrs to fit a cargo barrier yeah maybe if they sat on their ass for 3hrs... its only 4 or 6 bolts... it shouldnt be that hard to fit... have you tried just sitting it in the back and seeing where it all lines up, just move the carpet out of the way...

have you ever fitted one from scratch? most dont jsut bolt into exsisting holes

i have fitted them to many nissans, toyota's and never in 1 hour

holden and ford have a MILFORD barrier made for them and they bolt up but the rest have to drill holes all over the place

and dont get me started on the quick release cargo curtain

have you tried emailing millford, the instructions may be on file and im sure they would try to help seeing as they dont make them any more.

They are a PITA to fit. I helped dad fit one to his 80 series years ago and I recall it took ages.

I'm not familiar with how they fit in a vitara, but there are often little inserts that require larger holes to be drilled, inserts slipped in behind the body structure, then the mounts sandwiched through the body. It's fiddly work.

I'd want to allow 4 hours.

I can also imagine you might not have all the parts - again, if it's like an 80 series, there are likely to be some parts that will stay in the car.

Have a think - you are going to turn up with your car and a barrier. ARB have to contact milford and get the instructions emailed or whatever. Sit down and go through what you gave them and work out if it's all there, before they start the job. They made no money on the initial sale of the item, so there's no margin for error. It's not a one person job - they are bulky and heavy. So they've allowed two hours for two guys.

I think that's fair.

Of course you could contact Milford yourself, make sure you collect all the parts, buy the right size holesaws, and you and a mate could stuff around for the whole day doing it..... if you think that's better value, go for your life.

This is the reason I am looking at having it fitted properly from ARB or similar, because I don't trust I can do it myself without damaging the moulded roof lining (apparently it will droop badly at the rear if it is creased) and it does have to be drilled in several places on the roof

I wasn't trying to have a go at ARB or anyone else, just saying they have quoted 4 hours to fit and I need to find the fitting instructions before I get it to them

have you seen the captive nuts that they use with the sandwich backing plates that you have to fit into the pissy little hole you've just drilled into a 3 layered peice of roof section.

it's a bitch of a job & i would gladly pay someone to do it.

I've fitted them at work...

We allow 2.5 hours. That is all parts supplied to us, instructions supplied to us and the knowledge of having fitted them to the particular vehicle before. (I work for ford)

4 hours is not unfair considering there a no instructions, no guarantee that all the parts are there and no profit on the sale itself.

That said, if you're cluey and don't want to spend the $320, get some booze, call some mates and on a sunday and take all day fitting it if you have to.

If you have barrier and you have the part number then the arb store should get of thier ass and get the instructions from Milford , Arb have thier own supply direct from Milford and it's just them being lazy. If they want the work they would get them for you.

I cant believe rivnuts havent come into this thread yet...they are pretty cheap, and a few long m6 bolts, should all be schweet

That depends on how effective you need it to be as a barrier

Rivnuts will hold it in place, but the mounts and brackets you get with the barrier from Milford are designed to arrest shifting loads in the event of an accident.

I helped a mate fit one about 15 years ago, it was a 4 bolt version, 2 in the floor, 1 either side.... it took us just over an hour... i will admit, the side bolts were a bit fiddly, but it wasnt a difficult job... maybe they are much more complicated now, i thought it was pretty easy... oh well... that will teach me for jumping in...

This is a 2 posiotional one too, it slides forward when the back seat is folded up so it may be a bit more difficult that a straight bolt in one
