Ok guys, so Ive searched here and outers and haven't got the answer I'm looking for.

I've got an mx82 cressida p/s box and can get the pump for next to nothing. I'm just wondering why some people and places like rocky road say to use the mx 32/62 boxes. How are they different to my mx82 box and could I make mine work? I will pull the pitman arm off to see if the taper suits my sierra, if not what do people recommend for a zook with 2" BL, 2" springs, just running 235's?

My second question is about the pump. Can anyone tell me what the pressure/flow requirements for a box are relative to a rack? Ie could any pump hack it, or should I source one off a p/s box vehicle? This leads to the last of my questions. I'm running a turbo GTi donk, and the pump will have to go on the passengers side near the exhaust. Should I be using a pump, such as the VS commodore that has remote reservoir and a massive multi rib pulley, to hopefully keep the rpm of the pump to a reasonable level? (my rev limit is set to 7800).

Don't know about Mazda boxes but I run a genuine Sierra powersteer box with a Celica rack pump... Works fine.

i'm pretty sure, they are toyota PS box numbers not mazda.

Yeah I've got the box and pump from an 82 cressida. Also looking at an early model mitsubishi triton pump, as its small, has a remote reservoir and was designed for a 4WD with 235's like mine Just wondering if anyone has any ideas to add, I'd rather hear them now, than 'you should have done........' Alot of people run a falcon teardrop shape ps pump. Come in both mulit v and single vee.

Yeah Ive read that a fair bit. My issue is because I have a turbo set up I have to fit the pump between a manifold on tope, a sandwich plate behind and oil lines/intercooler pipes that run up the passenger side. Hence why I'm leaning towards a remote reservoir. My main question really is why people specify the 78-81 cressida boxes? My 82 appears to be the same box. Are they a different spline, bolt pattern or gearing etc?

Try this. you might need to run a cooler and a bigger resiviour, but it should be up to the task

If your box is from an 82 then it should be an MX62 Cressida. The 62 refers to the model not the year. Later models had rack and pinion steering.

For the pitman arm, the Sierra one won't fit, but a Vitara pitman arm will. The Vit arm is flat though, so you might end up with a little bump steer with 2" lift. You could use a drop pitman for a Vitara.

I use a Vitara pump to drive my Celica box and it works great.

I make bolt on adaptor plates to mount these boxes to the chassis if you want one. I also do a plate to mount a Vitara pump to a 1300 or 1600 in a Sierra.

All P/s box's are bigger than a sierra box, jimny is the closest I've seen to the same size

Yeah my jimny P/S box is only slightly bigger than my sierra steer box. But my vitara P/S box is heaps bigger.

you get a different radiator bracket on sierras with power steer to clear it

and vit rad and sierra / jimny power steer will squeeze into a sierra, but they rub pretty hard

Yes they do require a little MANipulation to fit

The Toyota box will fit with the stock radiator in the stock position.

fitted power steering using cressida box and falcon pump. The diagram joe blow posted on outers was a little different to my chassis. I think this is because i have a 1litre lwb chassis. Just meant none of the original holes lined up. So i just put it as far forward as i could mount it. This is a really good conversion and works really well.

At the weekend i did a high country trip, and i blew the high pressure line of its fitting. I used lpg flex line and the screw in fittings. it looks very similar to red89 picture. the line blew where it screws into the fitting. The hose felt very soft and swallon, normally its really stiff.
Was wondering if this line is no good? Or if i need to fit a cooler? The lines get really hot. The return is 8mm trans hose about 1.5 metre long, high pressure is the same length.

LP gas hose is most definatly not the stuff to use.

If it looks the same as the pic and has a woven outer covering (automotive LPG hose) , you can use your existing fitting on the proper hose. Go to your local hydraulic shop and get SAE100R5 hose, Aeroquip FC350-6, Gates 6C5C etc.........most will have an equivilant.

Would have thought 5/16" (8mm) would be a bit small for the return side, most use 3/8" (10mm). What size are the barbs on the box/resivoir?
