My 1.6 Blaeno motor (with Jimny auto) has a miss/hesitation under load on accelleration.

The check engine light comes on when this happens. The diagnostic tool we have here won't talk to it.

The TPS is new, fuel pressure is OK, under light load/accelleration drives fine. when it gets past that particular load spot it also drives fine.

Any ideas?

Oh, it's a twin coil pack motor if that makes any difference.

That's what we're looking at now. $306 + GST trade trying to make sure that's what it is first.

It has spark, runs fine at revs/no load. Will check with the auto elec out the back to see what he's done there.

$306!!! Get stuffed!!!! Can ya show us a pic of it? Even better does anyone have the specs on the sensor ie voltage output at idle (high vacuum) and WOT (no vacuum). There will most likely be alot cheaper option like possibly a GM 1bar sensor if the outputs match.

you should be able to short out the check connector the old fasioned way, if it is still on the loom.

The problem is that the check engine light only comes on when it's starving/hestiating/dying then switches off when it passes that point.

A history code would make life easy. Unfortunately life isn't so easy.

My Baleno motor kept dropping cylinders and missing under load, was caused by water in the sparkplug hole. Try blowing all the holes out, spraying a little CRC down there and reinstall coilpacks.

Yeah, pull the coil packs and check holes for moisture. Also look for burn marks or tiny holes on the stems.

That's not normal - Check engine should stay on once it's been lit.

Eng light "should" reset if the battery was disconnected tho.

If, & I say "if" the cam/crank angle sen is braking down & not firing the coil's, the o2 sen could be throwing the light but not a code, some fault's take 6 cycle's to throw a code.
but I doubt it..

usually coil pack or coil pack probe , but doesnt normally throw a check engine light ..

if you are using the baleno engine bay fuse box you can jump B&D to manually get the code in DIAG1 , if you dont have this , you can ground out the B16 wire from the ecu , it is a violet wire with a yellow stripe

So in no particular order:

-New TPS
-Checked, cleaned plugs and leads. Clean and no moisture, no noticable holes/burns
-Checked as best as possible for vac leaks
-Cleaned throttle body
-Checked cam sensor - no marks/noticable wear
-Checked fuel pressure
-Checked air filter

At a loss I've just ordered
Cam sensor
MAP sensor

We'll see how it goes.

I believe it is Vitara.

You can however get the engine light on without the car even moving which ruled out the VSS and any gearbox issue. The light comes on even while in neutral.

The starve only happens when the light is on driving under load.

Just went and topped up the tank with some fresh premium unleaded. No difference.

Driving back pulsing the throttle it seems to drive OK with no light

jim, if you have the tacho circuit hooked up to the standard sierra unit disconect it and see if it makes a difference. if it does you will have to graft a jimny/ baleno/ ignis unit in.

Doesn't have a tach from memory (It has a commercial 1.3 instrument cluster - no tach)

But yes, Steve is correct, no Tacho.

Have pulled the computer out, no visable shorts/burns.

The previous owner tells me that the car pretty well stalled and then required a jump start. From then on the issue began. Not sure if that might give anyone some ideas.

The hard thing is that it was running right before hand.
