When I turn on my stock carby 1.3l, she has a hard time staying on, idle is around, 7-800rpm, but, when its warm, idle is around 1,600 or so, its like the choke is working in reverse.

I have no idea what I'm looking at, bloody hoses an electric wires, springs, moving bits everywhere, complicated little carby.

Anyone have any insight as to what this may be, or why it is so.

lol so much for my ingenuity, the choke butterfly was very lose and floppy, so I thought, hmmm, ok, sort that out, ended up wiring it open.

Took it for a drive to get it to full op temp.

Now, idle is 2,100 rpm, wtf ?

Back to the drawing board.

fuck is it hard to follow the manual to set these things rather than going fark I know more about this shit than a BUNCH OF JAPANESE ENGINEERS i'll fix it real good

it does it cause your choke setup is shit, when warm make sure both coolant lines on the carb are getting warm and set your normal idle to whatever, make sure the lights and heater fan are OFF.

now go away for 12 hours to let it cool, when you come back look at the choke flap, make sure its closed and has some tension on it, you would like the little plastic gear on the side that spins it to be in the middle o the bigger gear, if not you need to turn the screw that gores into teh same chamber as the water lines

now start it up and check the idle speed, if its 1100 or so great pat yourself on the head and go about your day, if not, turn it off so it doesnt get warm, now go have a good look at the half moon thing the cable attaches to, see the upside down screw in it? thats the fast idle screw, to get at it you need the throttle open fully (see also why the engine is off?) now wind it in a bit and let go of the throttle and start it and see where your idle is, keep doing this until its right

now dont touch it anymore!!

if you want pics, search, there are some good ones :)

Royce, thats pretty clear, but, the spring that holds the choke butterfly, is fukd, thats why I thought, maybe, wire it open.

When i wired the choke butterfly open, she gained another 400 or so revs.

Is the fast idle screw your talkin of, the one that is really hard to get to, and is on the inside, twix the tappet cover and the carb, facing down, near impossible to adjust.

I think that I love a much easier carb to work on, may give you shit at extreme angles, but is far and away, simpler.

When I try and start her when she cold, like, tomorrow, she will not idle, at all, it will stall till it gets some heat into it. This is why im tricked. Then the revs increase as heat builds.

cold engines need more fuel and air to hold revs, you dont have this so it idles slow

yes the hard to get at screw is the fast idle

if you dont have a lot of spring tension but you still have tension, you adjust the screw in teh wax stat (thing with coolant lines going into it), it pulls the linkage to twist teh choke flap axle and make the spring tighter, to little and it isnt rich, too much and it chokes and dies
