hi, all. Been a long while since I've posted. Quick question. currently have a widetrack 2l vitara with the small prob of the engine having been destroyed by the previous idiot, erm owner. Am I able to put a 1.6 efi in no hassles or is it better sourcing another 2l engine?
any advice please. :)

The 2 litre is a different series motor (J series) than the 1.6 (G series) so its far from a straight bolt up. As its also a backwards step, I wouldn't go to the hassle...

hence why he called it a widetrack vitara.... orsam tech buzztroller, hurry up & join pootrol4x4.com :finger:

there are quite a few things that would make the conversion back to 1.6 a bit of a headache, for starters the gearbox is different, the engine mounts are different, the ECU & wiring would be a big job...

get another J20a or even the H20a or H25a V6's as the loss of power with the 1.6 would suck + the legalities of getting an older engine engineered in a newer vehicle could be a challenge.

The new SX4 J20's are about 1500-2500 from the wreckers.

If you run your inlet manifold, You should be able to get it up and running again. with a very low km's motor.

Starting a sentence with "There is" like you did makes it a statement if you'd started it with "Is there" it would make it a question. The two make what you wrote read in two completely different ways.

For the question mark at the who know's what that could have been..... maybe 1/2 a smiley ?

Now back to tech, the current evolution of the J20a in the SX-4 is now pumping out around 110kw, up from the 95-97kw in the Vitara, I wonder what they've done to get the extra power? ECU Tuning or does it have variable valve timing?

The new sx4 will have VVT, So a change of the wiring will be needed to suit the ecu.. The motor should bolt up, in theory. Practical however, who knows..

I though all the suz small cars would of used 'M' Series motors..swifts, jimnys etc

The bolt pattern looks the same, but you would need the vit sump and pickup. The intake manifod is almost unusable in a vit though. And I'm not sure if the J20 vit manifold would swap onto the SX4 head...

Here are some pics of a VVT J20 from 2009 SX4.

one thing to note , the conversion from the j20 from a sx4 is not possible if you have a sq420 vitara , it may fit in the jb420.
the reason for this is that the cam position sensor is driven off the cam (eg dizzy type) whereas the sx4 engine doesnt have provision to bolt the cam position sensor in the head. I know this as i wanted to put the j20 from the sx4 in a j18 gtx baleno and this is what was stopping me ..
