Replacing my bent shocks today & thought that I could do a simple write up of how I remove the steel sleeve from the bottom bush on the Commodore Shocks.
It can be done in a vice or hydraulic press but some don't have access to one.
Step 1: Tools Required, Spanner, Ratchet + Deep Socket to suit nut & bolt, Long bolt, Nut, Washer & Large Socket (The bolt I used wasn't long enough so I used the shallow socket first)
Step 2: Put the bolt through the bush, then the socket with the open end against the bush, put the washer on then the nut.
Step 3: Start ratcheting the nut on & the head of the bolt will pull the sleeve through the bush, Keep tightening the nut until you come to the end of the thread. (If your bolt is long enough you can keep going until it pulls the sleeve right through)
Step 4: This is where I had to change over to the deeper socket so it has enough depth to pull right through.
Step 5: Done, the 2nd shot shows the sleeve pulled into the socket, at that stage you can usually just pull the remainder of the sleeve/bolt out of the rubber bush, last shot shows the position of the sleeve on the bolt to give you an idea of how it all works.
I'll add to this thread showing the installation of the thinner walled calmini vitara sleeve, I usually just lube them up & push them in, you can use the above method in the reverse order to fit the replacement sleeves.
