Hey wanting to buy a sierra soon either the 1990-1995 or 1996-1998 models. Should i go for one with leaf or one with coil suspension???. I don't really know much about them other than the suspension and dash any other big differences in the models?

Coilys are better. Don't listen to what the rest of them say. However, leafys are much easier and cheaper to modify

If you don't anticipate doing many modifications and on road refinement is important to you, buy a coiler.

If you are interested in off road capability and access to aftermarket parts, buy a leaf sierra.

Buy a 96 leafy. There's a nice one for sale on here.
I once had a coily and it cost me an arm and a leg to lift it 2".
It had crap plastic bumpers that got a new crack everytime I went out.

Much happier with my leafy.

The only thing good on the coilys is the front clip.

i have a lefy and love it, however the coilies are growing on me, ive seen soo many nice ones. more things are also starting to fit coilys thanks to some smart people on here.

coilies have nicer interior and better comfort, coiles are still good offroad, rushos has 2" lift with 2" BL and 30's (correct me if im wrong) and it goes everywhere like similar moded leafies. u WILL pay more

leafies do have more after market gear and hence easier to mod and suspension related parts are also easier to find for a leafy.

EITHER WAY SIERRAS ARE AWESOME and GREAT CHOICE

Even on road I'd go a leafy, death wobble can be fixed on a leafy..

i got a coily as it was a trade off

the only thing that dosnt fit a coily is leafs.. they are also much better if u want to put another motor in it (wich u will nearly no one sticks with g13a)

mine is good offroad, and not bad on road!

things u need to consider..

coilys break control arms/mounts (i have had mine for about 3 years i think and JUST broke a mount, ironicly the first day i took it out with 6.5 gears and locker)

castor corection is hard to come across but i here new arms are in the works...

other than that, your looking at about $500 more than a leafy to get lift, body lifts are identical.

mine is 2inch coils with 35mm spacers and a 2inch bl. i like how it drives (bar the need for caster corection)

its all up to you mate but coilys are pretty

if you want a 'real' coil sprung vehicle......get a jimny.

umm why joe? they have the same mounts as far as i know?

u can fit a vit fuel pump straight up makes for a neater conversion

i am not saying either is perfect, i am just stating they are not half as bad as all u haters say.

i find it funny your useing the weekest part of a coily in your new diff build yet bag them and still wont say why your useing it.

At least jimny's don't have the terrible 1/2 a strut front suspension design and better weight distribution due to the longer wheelbase, and there are more aftermarket options for jimny's due to them being popular in Europe, plus avialable auto and power steer.


IMHO poor wheel travel, terrible roll stiffness problems, and funky one off axles make the coiler a poor choice as a 4WD. no amonut of cool front clip or dash will make up for a car that's broken.

Most have now dropped a piston skirt or two as well by now.

Don't get me wrong Jonno, I quite like you car, and like the look of coilers, I just think they are terribly compromised by their uniqueness and therefore lake of support.
