Some SJ50 wide tracks were plated as utes, does the plate say ute or just the rego?

Probably just registered as a VAN. They are not normally that specific (ie PANEL van)

I had this trouble with Qld Transport a while back, it seems that the CTP insurers and Qld Transports data does not interface too well.

Some freak who doesn't know the boot from the bonnet has designed a data base and has not factored in all the variables.

I registered a LWB and got my CTP at Suncorp they called it a sedan, I went to Qld Transport and they would not accept it, they said their computer said that if it has two doors and 2 seats it is a ute, van or sports car. They ruled out sports car pretty easily then had a discussion on if it was a ute or a van. They had a look at it and van was ruled out because it was a soft top, so they called it a ute.

I asked how many utes have no divider between the tray and the passenger compartment and have a soft top, they said do you want it registered or not. So it is a ute...

TTBB and I were munching down some lunch in a park the other day and low and behold johhny law drives past.. pulls a wicked U bolt and pulls in behind me.. lights n bells going.. decided he was going to do a RBT on me...:S A big exhale into his .05 'o meter, gave him an all clear, so he proceeded to look the zookie over... namely picking on my rego..
The following conversation went something along the lines of...

P/O:owned the veichle for long?"
Me: yeh a few years now... why?"
P/O:''these the plates for this veichle?''
ME: ''ahh.. yeah...obviously''
P/O: "why is it registered as a Van then huh?''
ME: "No idea, I was going to ask you the same thing, Vic roads cant give
me a straight answer on that either"
P/O: "I suggest sorting it out with vicroads..."
ME: ''Been there done that..and they said its a van.."
P/O: ''mumble grumble pop the bonnet.."
ME: ''Hunny, reach into the glove box and pop the bonnet for me would
ya..."
P/O: "Why is the bonnet release on the passenger side?!"
ME: "ahh cos thats the way Suzuki designed it.."
P/O: "Suzuki!?? your rego sys its a Holden.."
ME: ''Laughing.. well.. yeah I guess.. but this little plate says its a suzuki''
-pointing to Build tag''
P/O: ''You SURE these plates are for this veichle!?''
ME: ''yep.. Chassis number...blah blah blah''-matching rego sticker
P/O: ''Right.. well.. umm.. I suggest getting in touch with Vic roads and
sorting it out.."
ME: ''Ahhh..sorting WHAT out exactly!?''
P/O: ''Your veichle description, If I was to do a plate check whilst behind
you, Id pull you over for false plates, as it is NOT a van.."
ME: ''Your joking arnt you...what would YOU classify it as officer!?''
P/O: ''Station wagon...''
ME: LAUGHING-''your kidding.. when did you last see a convertible
stationwagon!?
P/O: shrugs shoulders,-enjoy your lunch" gets in his car n leaves...

Wanker c0pper..

oh and $625.20 per year...

Both mine are utes, Some insurance agencies let you register them as a "conv" convertible. Compulsory 3rd party, registering it as a conv is more expensive! Weird huh? You would think utes will be commercial so they cost more.. But they are very light utes. My swb a 77'rolla are similar prices for compulsory 600ish

In WA both my Sierra and my old Vit S/Ts are utes.

Hardtop Sierra's are Vans.

I guess it comes down to having a certain number of categories that everything has to fit into.

According to the rego papers, my old 5 cyl VW Bora was in fact a 4 Cyl Golf 8O

You can park a Station Wagon in Loading Zones too, but only if the driver is dropping off or picking up goods.

NSW rules

Qld (p.169) Loading Zones require a permit from the local council.

Tas, if you have your name and address permanently painted on the right hand side of the vehicle

Vic is the same with name and address

SA, Commercial vehicles up to 30 min, other vehs 10 min
