Thanks for the feedback and good discussion boys. We are thinking about the general population here so having a winch that bolts into a standard bar is a big plus, But I can see the point of the smaller sized winch, and to be honest 24m of rope is more than enough for most winching scenarios, otherwise a winch extension strap should be used.
What I would really want is a smaller winch which includes a folded bracket to bolt into a standard winch bar. not a huge extra outlay but worthwhile.
Specs should be something like:
6hp motor
100:1 gearing
rotating ring gear clutch
drum disconnect FTW! (would make the winch a bit longer but a nice solenoid operated drop pin disconnect would be sweeeeet.
synthetic rope....
Any other things on the ultimate 6000lber?
I'm basing all this info off my wiinch which was a warn magnum 9000lb but I slipped in the last set in existance here and in the USA of 115:1 planetary gearset and a 6hp motor. Great fast no load line speed and a loaded line speed which is acceptable. I haven't measured it against a standard XD9000 to see the difference. I'll get some video and post it up in the next week or so to show you guys the possibilities.

i think what youve said about bolt pattern to match existing bars is key. this will make it far more accesable to the general public, and an easy install for your average diy bloke.
this in itself will generate so many more sales than a specific/mods required bolt pattern. coming with synth rope = win also, weight concious suzuki owners will love you for it.
interested to see the outcome

Food for thought. I understand that the general public may prefer something that bolts in but surely if you're confident to install your own winch your also confident to drill a couple of holes. Most that are scared to drill the holes (reduction in strength aside) would also be scared to install a winch. As a result they would have them installed at a shop that could quite easily do the redrill anyway.
Hmmmmmm I'm talking in circles......

i reckon the winch sounds really good. i think drilling holes to mount a winch should be no big deal for suzuki owners, as most are modified any way. How well would these winches free spool. i had a cheap 1200 on a patrol and the free spool wash horrible. and i have a cheap winch on my zook i think it's a 5000lb the free spool doesn't work at all, and its really slow.
definately would be keen on one of these by the sound of it.

personally I like my 6000lb winch, but it would definately struggle on anything bigger than a sierra.

A lot of it is going to depend on how stuck you actually are. A 6000lb winch when you're bogged to your diffs/stuck under a ledge is going to be doing it tough on a single line pull.
That said a 9,500lb low mount can ba painfully slow on no load line speed.
Dank, by the time you fit the 6hp motor etc etc to a 6,000lb winch, what will the weight and size difference be between this and a 9,000lb winch?

Well it all depends on what casing the chinese developers decide to use. I reckon a smaller winch like the Warn 9.0RC size would be sweet on a zook but the tooling involved would cost a lot to build a completely new winch.
So I am going to probably say that the winch itself may probably be based on the current 2 speed 9000lb shell, just with different gearing, so they only need to tool up for a different gear ratio setup on the low gear for a 6000lb pull.
This winch is currently 580mm long, so its pushing the envelope of fitting into a sierra ARB bar...which would be the baseline standard that they would have to build to.
The weight is probably not going to be significantly different. The rope version weighs in at 25kg with control box, fairlead etc. which is more than acceptable on a sierra.
The differences we would be wanting to achieve are faster line speeds than a 9000lb version. Whether tigerz actually see enoguh merit to prodce this winch I'm not sure as he knows suzuki drivers are tight asses and won't fork out unless it's something special....
He's bringing out later this year an auto by remote clutch operation which means instead of having to manually move the lever from fast to slow to freespool, you will be able to do it via the remote. That is cool.

I don't see a great deal of necessity for a two speed winch on a zook. I think that a single speed (keeping the overall width as short as possible) would do the job just fine.
A 9,000lb with faster gearing, reducing load rating but providing a faster retrieve would be the best, lightest, most compact and cheapest option.
The 9.0RC doesn't carry enough rope, the 24m would be the shortest you'd want to go. I'm assuming you're talking about 10mm rope?

I dont see a need for two speed on a winch either....but if its got it, it's an added bonus.
10mm rope seems the go. But I use 8mm on my lowmount and have about 33m on it. probably bordering on too much as you have to watch the bunch up.
The 9000lb only comes in a two speed from tigerz11 and is only 20mm longer than the single speed versions.
As an example, my lowmount magnum 9000lb is regeared at 115:1 from an original 261:1 with a 6hp warn motor and thursday night i deadpulled the zook up and over a 1 metre ledge on a single line pull with about 10m of rope out and did it about twice as fast as the hilux behind me with a tigerz11 12000lb single speed.
So I reckon gearing around 100:1 with a big 6hp+ motor would be a killer setup on a zook. at times you might need to pull out the snatch block, but most winching you are driving and winching so single line should be enough.
