At 10pm at night when I cant make *that* much noise, and when I dont have a steering wheel puller?

Nuts off etc its just jammed on the splines something cruel.

Theres no real threaded holes in the wheel face (of decent size anyway) to be able to do a DIY puller with bolts/flatbar.

Tried smacking the crap out of it without success (so far anyway).

Any bright ideas or should I stop being so damn impatient and wait till morning?

use your jack between the dash and the back of the wheel? lol

undo nut,

hold wheel 2 hands, '1/4 to 3' firm grip, and rock side to side while pulling. Once you get alittle wiggle, the rest is easy. Its a splined taper.

wind nut back on so there are a few threads in the nut & wack the back of the steering wheel with you palms at the same time, the nut stop the wheel coming flying off & smacking you in the face!!!

x2 - that's how I've always done it. Learned the 'put the nut back on' trick on a Sigma when I was 16

This. You sir, are a champion. Didnt budge after 50+ smacks with the hammer yet pulling side to side had it off in about 5 seconds.

lol got wifi but its farkin cold out there. Think I might have to leave it at that for the night though unfortunately.

Can't find the bloody dremel to mod the SAAS boss kit.

Could probably get away with the drill but the angle grinder this late at night might be pushing it

Found the dremel in the end so work carried on!

Few minutes notching it and she fitted perfectly.

Pretty much all together now. Its probably about an inch further away compared to the stock wheel which suits me perfectly as I was always a little cramped before.

Quick dodgy photo for now! Havent even driven yet and already it feels 100 times better (stock wheel was starting to break apart).



Think one of the previous owners must of had a major case of road rage at some point. The plastic shell that covers the stock horn mechanism was smashed into about 8 pieces lol.

Not sure on the wheel size, its maybe about 10mm smaller than the standard wheel.

Looks great! Don't stress about the wheel size ... I'm guessing you've got power steering, in which case you'll adjust to the new feel in a day or two. Even without power steering it's not going to be a major difference as the force required to turn the wheel is directly proportional to the radius of the steering wheel ... so a 10mm difference in diameter will likely cause less than a 5% increase in amount of effort required.

You might have to shave the little raised edge on the column cover to stop the boss kit rubbing.

The wheel looks sweet & it will feel so much better to drive.

haha, i got all excited when sticking mine on and now it's crooked, but it feels allot better to drive

there isn't many mod's you can do that you can see all the time... it sorta suprises me everytime i get in the car

well trying to get my steering wheel off so i can realign it. taken to 1 big(17mm head) nut off (put it back on 2-3 threads), gave it a few bangs at the 3 n 9 positions but nothing. is there any more that i have to undo?

and is it just a case of wacking it harder?

Dont whack it Mitch, literally just brace yourself in the front seat, grab the steering wheel at 3 & 9, and pull side to side (if anything push a little on the opposite side as you do it). Will come straight off

ummm, well tried putting the jack between the wheel and the dash but thats didnt work, except for marking my dash wish i had read this b4 i had packed up but i just whacked it and nothing moved, not even 1mm or .5mm.

i even started to make my own puller, but my drill bits are all to small.

so next free moment ill take it all off again and try again.

go back to nut loose, turn both your hands into fists and lay into the wheel with the base of each fist like you are banging on a desk when somebody stole your lollipop

work your way around keeping each fist 180 degrees to each other, wont take 30 seconds to come loose

as has been described...
- Cover off
- undo nut, wind back on at least half way. (broken noses arent much fun)
- while sitting in the seat, put your hands at 3 and 9 and wriggle the wheel in and out and keep as much force pulling it out as you possible can. you may need to push off using your feet. swearing may or may not help. the wriggle in and out will get it looser than just trying to smack it off in one go.

what are you trying to say?? just coz i ask lots a questions, does that make me incompetent? sorry im not a mechanic.....even tho my job title has that word in it ill get it off, just takes a bit more time lol
