dave I'm not anti alcahol fueled at all.
A mate and I used to run a 400hp turboed and intercooled datsun 1600 drag car
But unless you are running a deicated alchol set and tune your just wasting your time putting it in your car
the reason I know you need a large percentage more fuel to make the same power and massive amount of extra fuel to more power is because when we switched for avgas to methanol we had to increase the injector size/flow rate 50% to make it produce at the same power specs.
all the seals fuel lines and injection pumps had to be changed its a lot of work.

I get ethanol in a 20l barrel, because im a primary producer its very cheap.
Lots n lots cheaper than "off the shelf"
You cannot believe the taxes on the stuff.
Remember, ethanol is exactly the same stuff as in the drink we love, an so, taxed to buggery, where as in my game, its used for biological sampling.
99% pure.

Ahh man, avgas is so very different to any other form of fuel.
I used to run avgas, leaded 100 octane, lost my ability to get it. blast.
Avgas is a seriously wonderful fuel, ethanol blended will do as good, ues more, yes, but if its cheap, who cares.
For ethanol in a carby set up, you need bigger jets, but, when you are running a tiny 1.3 or even a 1.6l donk, and can blow away far bigger cars, an of course they have no idea what you are running, its a real "haha suk shit" type thing that gets me loving that stuff.

I'm not upset whincup but telling people to use a product that can well have adverse effects on their car is just plain stupid, particularly when its obious that he has no idea what hes on about.
but if you think its a good idea do it, I'm happy to help you later when you start the my fuel system has fallen apart thead

Andrew, I fully understand what you are saying. Unless you know what you are doing, and can tune for the differing fuels, keep to stock, as there is very little gain, if any by using hot shot fuels.
You must admit, IF you know what you are doing, there is a lot more fun in running (best is avgas) hot shot fuels.

i too am against using e10 in sierras as i tried it once and took 2 tanks of premium for it to run smooth again, but how do you know he hasnt adjusted his setup for it? you didnt ask...

its a major adjustment on a carbi car and you dont just switch fowards and back after a major change like that.
and if its injected there is no adjustment possible if using a factory ecu.
when we used it in the drag dato it was running a full motec ecu and the whole fuel map had to be changed just to produce the same power.

...not quite what i meant by my last post... and just for the record, i wasnt questioning your expertise in the area, or what you know. i was pointing out that there are other ways to get your point (or expertise) across without swearing and such...

avgas is medicore compared to real race fuels.
play with some roo16 or similar, liquid horsepower

hehe I love it when opinion gets touted as fact
I cant wait till E85 is available at my local servo so I can build a mini engine with massive fuel tanks to run it, actually a full house sierra engine would be funny too
until then I'll keep running normal unleaded in my vit cause thats what its designed for, cause I am smart enough to google the facts on ethanol and not believe what the well marketed sites and today tonight tell me

I know, but fair dinkum, the price is somewhat prohibitive, damit.
IF I could afford that, that is what I would be running, but at the same time, distance driving would fuk that up big time, unless of course you had a 100 jerrys

real race cars and bikes run on methanol not ethanol.
i could live on the exhaust fumes of a methanol motor especially if there is a bit of castor oil thrown in the mix.

Judging by the fuel consumption suziblu gets on petrol it might be close to Stoich on 50/50 Ethanol/ petrol with the same tuning.
(I'm almost serious.)

a mate and I got an old lawn mower running in it and avgas 50/50. it went off, but couldn't shut it off even after covering the air intake with a rag it kept running to some degree.
to stop you need to kill the fuel supply.
anyway shortly after it threw the rod.

steve, read the fuel thread, many have said they get worse fuel milage than me, you do not have a go at them, do not say they are optimistic, do not poke shit at them.
I am beginning to think you have a school boy crush on me, and show it by taking the mickey out of everything i say. As all immature little children do.
You really are a sad little puppy Steve.

i just re read that fuel usage thread & you're the only one that's put their figures as LPH... can you convert your LPH to L/100kms like everyone else?

i did mate, got corrected for a bad oops.
i recon as I get 12.5 or so LPH on the road, when out playing that will drop to 20lph or so, when being savage, I recon its far lower than that.
LPH= litres per hundred.
12.5lph equates to approx 320ks to the 40l tank.
Not too shabby for an old antiquated underpowered carby fed car, I know of modern cars that are similar that get worse fuel milage, an injected.

i read that as litres per hour?
oh yeah, back on topic.... i wouldn't put ethanol in a lawn mower & i don't even own one... i've only ever run PULP in my zook.

Yeah but your missing the point you need more of the ethanol to produce the same power and a lot more to make more power +ehanol is corrosive. and the only reason the V8's are running it is to apper to the general publicthat they are going greenAnd from what i understand, Ethanol burns cooler than normal fuel, so helps keep the engine a bit cooler... Actually hotter because unless its tuned for ethanol its running lean and lean=hot yes it burns cooler if you are running the right air fuel ratio's but that wont happen on a car tuned for petrol with out a Major retune. When i switched to Premium, 95ron, i felt a difference, but when i recently had it retuned, i found it ran even better, so it all comes down to getting the right tuning setup... Heres one to laugh at... When i used to work in the bush, i was put in temp accommodation, that had a Kero hot water system, i had a 10L tin of it, i had just refilled it, when i was told i can move into the SMQ... and not wanting to wastes the kero or leave it for some other bugger to use... i decided i would put it into the tank of my 1L Sierra i had at the time, he he... it ran ok, if a little sluggish on throttle response... but the best part was when i turned the key off... the engine kept running It took me a few goes to actually get the engine to stop, he he, those 1L engines must have been high compression to ignite the kero... it didnt cause the engine any damage... if you are so sure its a great product I dare you to run your zook on I straight for a year and see how fucked your motor is after that Im sorry macbear but I'm really getting the feeling you dont know shit about fuels and fuel ratios
That was totally uncalled for ... if you dont agree with me, say so, and then explain why, i am happy to admit i am wrong, if you can explain why, just going off doesnt help anyone, especially as this is in the Tech section !!!
Grow up a bit and explain yourself properly, and leave out the personal attacks please...

Hey Macbear. A few posts back you said your car runs better on E10? now that its been re-tuned.. How was it re-tuned? (Not having a go mate, its a serious question)
Because AFAIK, the ECU in the GV and all suzukis made in the last 10-15 years are a fixed program, with a VERY small scope for self correction. Certainly not enought to account for a 10% ethanol mix.
Where did you have it retuned? Did they fit a piggyback fuel ECU?
Your 'Re-tune' may have just been a good old service and cleaned out the gunk from the motor and perhaps thats why it is running better??
peaceout
