ohk guys car is spittin out oil out the exhaust like theres no tomoro, 1st thought were valve stem seals but now i have noticed water in the oil that is coming out aswell? doesnt seem to be any water in the oil when i pull the stick out and doesnt seem to be any oil in the coolant, although coolant level has seem to be dropin, no where near as much as oil though, oh and no white crap on the cap either....any thoughts??

It is common for cars to spit water out the exhaust (especially when cold) due to water being a product of the combustion process, especially in cooler periods.
The humid air in the exhaust cools, water vapour condenses and thus liquid H2O. This water is generally black from the carbon and sometimes smells a bit fuelly, from carbs tendency to run rich.
On cold mornings you will notice a lot of water splattering out the exhaust and white smoke. This goes away once the engine and exhaust is hot.

If it doesnt go away, your head gasket is shot.

Is it chewing through oil? Is it blowing blue smoke all the time?
Or does it only do it when its hot?
If it is blowing blue smoke all the time, probably rings are shot (check compression)
If it is blowing blue smoke only when under load (rings are shot)
If it is blowing blue smoke after just starting, valve stem seals.

Either way check the compression, on dry cyclinders and wet cylinders ( a bit of oil in each cylinder).

If the compression is the same dry and wet (or very similar i.e a few psi difference) and it blows smoke, valve stem seals.
If the compression changes a lot between wet and dry rings are gone.

If its blowing black smoke, check your carby.

cheers jdk, its blowin blue smoke and spittin oil everywhere all the time and the water is when its warmed up so im guessin i shud look for new motor, i will do compression check this week sometime, dont have gauge with me at the moment

How long has it been blowing smoke?

Did it over heat recently?

Before the smoke blowing, was it blowing any smoke previously? i.e. under load etc? Was is chewing oil before?

If it was fine before...
A new head gasket isnt overly expensive ($30 or so)
I would be inclined to pull the head off and have a squiz at the bores (to see how worn they are), if they are reasonable, you may get away with just replacing the head gasket and cleaning the gunk out of the coolant channels.
I would also check to see if the head isnt warped.

I would probably also consider a new water pump, thermostat (possible hoses too) and give the cooling system a real good flush/clean as its probably full of crap.

If the bore is shagged (has lots of scrapes and is ovaled), it will either need replacing or reco/rebuild.
Just whacking a new engine in, is buying a risk. The cost to fix yours will be X amount. The cost of a replacement 2nd hand engine is a fraction of X, but without knowing the condition (you may end up rebuilding it too).

nah it has never overheated, but has been using a little bit of oil for a while now but nothin that was a major concern to me until recently its been doin it really bad, i will pull the head off, hopefully its will be just a head gasket but before i bought it it was suppose to have a fresh top end not even done 500ks, and i have prob only put 2-3 thousand k on it, but wat do u expect for 1000 buks aye. cheers for all the info jdk

Knowing this, check the compression.

It is possible the "new" gasket failed, but I would suspect its much bigger than a simple fix

You sure its oil coming out the exhaust, and not just condensation? How much oil is it acutally using? Im in Newcastle if you want a hand.

haha no is definately oil! if u stand behind it while i start it you would be able to walk into anybank and get a 2% housing loan no questions asked... its roughly used 2 litres in bout 500-800km..and gettin worse.. cheers layto il keep that in mind if i need a hand, il do a compression check tomoz see what that reads then probable start pullin it apart on the weekend
