Hi nintendo4x4, it is pretty sad that I need to apologise for the cache of unhelpfull replies. Mate welcome to the site and welcome to Aus, don't be to perturbed you will find that most of the people who have responded in negative ways are normally quite helpfull, they could be 16 years old, or got bullied at school, or had a bad day at centre link (welfare), or had an arguement with their phycologist or are still suffering depression due to impotence but most likely they are just drunk.

To answer your question each state in Australia has its own transport jurisdiction therefore the rules differ across the country. Some states allow more modifictions than others but for uncommon or one off mods most states have some kind of mechanism whereby you can liaise with one of their engineers and if you stick by his guidelines he will sign off on the mods and they will be legal in that state. As far as tyre sizes go bigger is not always better, in Qld as Zook_fan says most coppers won't give you grief for 29"s (235/75/15) however at this point in time they are still illegal in Qld.
