hi all, my 93 lwb vitara decided to idle really bad today. for some reason it idles at a fixed 800-900 rpm as per normal but there is a very bad wobble in the motor that shakes the entire car. if i try to rev it up it has a bit of a lag - starts off with a loud empty 'note' before revving up, also the revs sounds pretty gutless - sounds hollow/empty.

drove it that way to the local shopping center. it wobbles during acceleration and feels pretty weak and gutless. wobbles on cruise too just a little less. i think it wobble more during lower revs (Acceleration).

i suspected it was the airflow meter. looked around here and found other posts regarding airflow meter and their airflow meter is different from mine. mine is the one that has a cone on both ends and the side that faces outwards (air filter) moves in and out to allow air to go through.

i took the airbox out and let it idle while fiddling with the cone and it actually idles properly w/o wobble if you help push the cone in a little from the side.

so i need some advise as to see if it really is the airflow meter thats causing the issue, like a bad fuel to air ratio maybe?

how much is a airflow meter worth?

have a good look at all your intake and vacuum hoses for a split, and eay way to do this is spray some carby cleaner or wd40 around the hoses and it the idle speed picks up thats where the leak is

X2, it also alot cheaper than replacing a Maf sen.

thanks for the advise. but i just dont get it. it keeps its rev at idle. idling speed is regular. i just think its missing or some sort.

does anyone know how to check the ecu fault code on a g16B motor? will it show up in the faults? thanks

sent car to the mechanic to change lower control arm bush. got him to do a scan. turns out to be a bad ignition lead on cylinder 3. changed the whole set of leads and spark plugs and car runs sweet~

thanks for all the advises here again, will keep in mind on diagnose of vacuum hoses~
