Just a qucik one.
Transplanting the Vit gears i have into sierra steel housings. Is it only the rear that needs the retaining can or both?
Cheers.

That was the thread that raised the question for me. Because i was speaking with someone about it already and from what i gather only the rear required it because it was a different pin set up or soemthign like that??? (I have no real idea whats going on here )

Is that the reason for the can's?? to hold the pin's in??
Don't you have a Mig??
What hold's em in now?? i cant see the crown wheel moving that much (that's what hold em in) going into a sierra housing that thay need can's..

My understanding is that, because the crowns are different sizes, when they are put into the sierra housings, the pins simply fall out. haha. So the cans keep them in place.
Also, mig... what is this mig you speak of? Do you mean meg? No body like meg. SHUT UP MEG! Nyaghhhhhhhh! (if you dont watch family guy dont bother trying to understand that)
An no, i dont have a welder.

Confusion is awesome
I believe using 5.12 gears on a WT rear or NT 1.3 front or rear a can is needed
WT front never thought about but it might not but I doubt it
not needed with air lockers cause they are clerver and a little bigger

The can is required for the rear only.
I have 4.6 R&P's in WT diffs. The rear has a can, but the front does not.

Nope, 4.6's. And the ID of the crown wheel is the same as 5.12's meaning the can is needed on the rear to stop the pins from falling out.
The vit crown wheels are thinner than sierra which allows the cross pins to potentially fall out. The can is fitted to stop this from happening.

There is still much debate NinjaDaniel says 4.8's others opinions say 5.1's.
I wont have an idea until i pull the diff out and count the teeth i guess. haha
Cheers for that fatty, only need the one can then

I could be pursueded. I'm at a cross road atm. I want 5.14:1 or 6.5:1's atm. If i do it though then i have to go to 3.9's and also make/buy a cradle... lol.
Will let you know what happens got other things that are more pressing then that atm.

you should only need 3.7s if you go to 6.5s and we have heaps of those. dad is just about to swap his 3.7s out for 4.6s so i could swap you those included. no great rush, they will only be for the ute when i do it.
