so fellas having played with all the steering geometry and fitted 34'' tyres with very large offset on them we are now experiencing the car tip from side to side when the steering wheel is turned.
what i mean is when you want to turn left say the car lifts up on the left hand side dramatically. as we have a p/s pump and box fitted steering is easy as two fingers can do it and i think we are getting full lock any ideas as to a problem or is this just due to the big tyres etc.
i know that on my gu troll that it does the same thing but no where near as much.
any help please.

na its all in the front end. its the front corner that lifts up on each side depending on which way you are trying to turn. a mates old man said something about caster angle but i think i have thatthe same as when it came out at the start so yeah.

Excessive caster will do it, but if you say you havent altered it I dont know what else would cause it

May be a by product of your shackle reversal and the front end is diving as you turn ? Whats it like under hard braking ?

simex's are mot a steel belted radial, there sidewalls move around heaps when driven on the road, thats why there not road legal, but i suspect you have other issues adding to your prob

to be honest have no idea about braking etc yet as we drove it out of the shed and only went round the block haven't had a chance to do much more yet. the steering was the only really noticeable thing.

are you saying the front jacks up turning lock to lock sitting still? if so take your foot off the brake or while moving? if so put stiffer rear springs in, springs that look cool on a ramp are shit in real life

big offset rims make the tyres turn in an arc rather than pivot, combined with any caster will do it too, the brakes on stop teh tyre rolling so push around a lot more

sweet thanks royce
i was speaking to a mate and doing some reading i think i will make up some wedges and see if i cant improve it a bit by lessening the positive castor angle. its all a rush now since its ready to go the boys wanna take it to wedge this week end so trying to sort the little problems out that we have found.

Sounds like the tyres have a good grip on the concrete, and springs are soft, So they move 1st. Get someone else to steer, and you at the front. It happens to mine. But not much. Another option is run a panhard rod in the front only. That wil stop the sideways movement of the chassis to diff alignment.

As royce said, a lot of caster and big offset will do this. My track car does this and it runs a stupid amount of caster

You failed. Its pretty much a buggy for offroad only.
But that is still a steering fail.

its not licenced guys. (the numberplates are for historic reasons only)
the drag link isnt pretty ok so its fucken ugly i did say that, as for breaking its alot stronger than a standard one and it dosent bend or more correctly flex when turning. the reason it is that way is i fabed it up neatly the first time as a trial of something else that in the end needed changing then couldnt get the right bits again to make a new one so i bodged this one up. (ill prolly make a new nice neat one when i can be bothered)
the spring perches are the same hieght the drivers side one however extends further around the axel tube as i had to make a new one for that side but could reuse the pasenger side one so when i made the new one i had it come further around the tube.

But does anyone now they have recovered from throwing up or laughing at my a grade hektic fabrication skills hahaha know the answer to the castor angle question?
and also disregarding the shitness of the draglink is the angle that its on from the tierod to the pitman arm ok or is it getting a bit on the steep side?

You can measure caster by checking the angle the kingpin plates sit relative to the ground. Factory caster is 3 degrees 30 minutes (from FSM).
