Am about to rebiuld my 1.3, so want some extractors and system to suit. How much is a decent price to pay. And is 2in the best option or 2.25in?

Extractors for $200 and the rest for $450-500 (including cat). 2" is more than enough

it cost me 180 for extractors off ebay and 250 for the rest in 2inch with cat.

Its a real good mod to have done... headers around $200... 2in is enough... depends if you are going standard Cat, or High Flow Cat, if you can afford the high flow cat, i would get it... without HF Cat, around $200 to $250, with HF Cat, $300 to $400 for exhaust...

I've just been quoted about $600 for 1.6 Lukey extractors and a 2" sports system. He said it will be a little more if I need a new cat.

Do catalytic converters deteriorate over time, or get clogged up? My old system is 2" also, maybe I should just use that bolted to new extractors. It's about 10 years old and looks to be in good condition. Of course I can't tell what it's like inside...

catalytic converters do lose their ability to operate after a few years however unless your engine is running very poorly they usually still flow.
too check if your cat is working (if you care?) get the car at running temp and measure the temperature before and after the cat if it is HOTTER AFTER the cat by about 50 to 200 degrees celcius your cat is working if its the same temp its not working and if its hotter at the inlet of the cat than the out let by 20-50 degrees its blocked .

if you can weld then go buy the bends plus pipe and flanges and build it yourself. i built a 2inch mandral bent system in my shed with just a angle grinder and stick welder in half a day. cost me 200 cash to the exuste shop for everything i needed. i already had extracters tho. cats can clog up/break down over time so if you going to spend money i say spend a little more and get new high flow one. yes you do need one just in case that is your next ? big fines if you are caught without one.
