Been thinking of possible upgrades for the sierra and i think a 5 door Grand Vitara might be the way to go but i need convincing. What can be done to make them better for weekend bashing.... Was thinking of a 2-3 inch suspension lift, body lift??? and lockers and t/case gearing.

Is this possible and would 31's fit under this setup?

Thanx

2" OME or 3" Calmini
2" Body lift
31" tyres
F&R diff lockers
5:12 diff gears

This is what others have done and what I would like to do.

Currently I have 30mm king springs and OME struts
29" tyre fit with minor scrubing. Can't complain about it's offroad performance. i would get alot further with lockers though.

I got my 2001 GV in march this year, after owning an 89 Vit for 2 years, and there is really no comparison... the GV is Very comfortable, and Very quiet, it took me a while to adjust to it, i had to change gears by the tacho, as i couldnt hear the engine at low revs, he he, but i am very happy with the GV ! They are a very good road tourer, and with a few simple mods, can be great offroad too, i was surprised how well it did stock offroad, with road tyres on... i am slowly getting my mods done, got rid of the ugly alloys, and got the GV steel rims, then got some Maxxis AT's, they gave me a bit more height and ability offroad... i am about to get a suspension lift kit shortly, and that will give me even more ability offroad, and better onroad handling, as the stock GV suspension is made more for comfort, he he... just got a 2in sports system and fitted a UHF... my next mods after suspension are, manual hubs, and recovery points/hooks... there are alot more mods available now for the pre 05 GV's...
While i dont have as many mods as some of the other GV's here, i will just keep improving/replacing bits as money allows, it wont be anything to extreme, as its a 90% onroad daily for me...

Don't get your suspension done just yet!
I am currently looking into something that may help all of us GV Owners that require a quality and properly engineered lifted suspension.
If it works, I will start a thread on it hopefully by the end of October, so save your money for just a little longer.

What i want is a cheap beat up GV that i wont care if it gets more battle scars...
god ons are about 10k plus but i want to spend as little as possible...say 6k with out rreg.

can you get lockrights for this model GV? Air lockers would be good but i doubt the budget would stretch that far.

Spill the beans....

Are you personally designing a specific kit.

Or are you experimenting with combo's of of the shelf items?

I will spill the beans when I have a final answer. Shouldn't be too long.

I have researched and found the 1532/1512 lockrights apparently fit the 99-01 GV rear diffs. I am yet to try this but will order one in Jan for my car to try.

Trail tough have also told me that their custom front carrier/locker for vits will fit in the front diff of my car but I am a bit weary about that one. Not sure if it will have the same probs as the ARB lockers with the drivers CV shaft not staying in place.

No, no news... It didn't happen, that's why I didn't want to say too much.
I am still working on options though.
