maby a stupid question ok yesterday i pulled my gearbox out of my suzuki sierra to get a new clutch put in it, as i got it out of under the car, i notice that the gearbox had a ben t adapter plate bolted to it.
so im wondering what would be the reasson for this, i need to get a new clutch and i dont want to get a wrong one if the gearbox isnt a sierra gearbox, is there some kind of code on the clutch. or is there a code on the gearbox so i can find out wat it is, my friend said it looks like a sierra gearbox. if thats the case, whats the reason for the ben t plate
much appreciated

Do you mean the thin plate (1-2mm) that goes inbetween the bell housing and the engine at the top? If yes than no, its not a bent adapter plate. Not sure what it's actually called though

Meh, probably had a 1.6 at some stage in it? (It is a 1.3 in it now right?)
Regardless, count the splines on the gearbox and make sure you get a clutch to suit.

Did the bottom bolts bolt up?? Because where the countersunk bolts are, thats where 1.3's bolt up. No if/buts/nothing.
Pics of back of motor needed! And proof of g13ba!

I'm with these guys, either that or those bottom bolts aren't done up, in which case you need to get that sorted. Take that adapter plate off if it's a 1.3.

the plate is bolted to the gearbox by alen key, two big bolts on both sides bolt to the engine, and the to long bolts you get with the kit are bolted on the back of motor
pics on request

Looks liek the engine number has been ground off and new number stamped on.
Numbers shouldnt be so wonky.

Looks like someone put a g16 in it, ground off the engine number and ID tags, then stamped the old engine number on it and probably destroyed the original g13ba engine from it.

strange thing is that the engine looks exsactly like a sierra engine, i looked on the compliance plate thingy and the engine number is different to the one on the engine, this is confusing. could it be a 1.3l from a early suzuki swift

I reckon it's a 1.6l that's been restamped. As someone said the stamping looks dodge, and the back of the engine doesn't look like a g13ba. Attached is a photo of the g13ba I pulled out of my '98 coily. It's the best photo I could find. If you expand the photo and take notice of the areas I've marked, then compare them to your photo, I reckon it's obviously not the same.

DODGY!!!!
Original stamps are perfect and inline...
She is a g16a. it may of been restamped because they do look almost exact same. Except for those mounting tabs. haha
Have a look at the grinding marks! Could of least made them neat!

Unsure on the carb, but it could even be a 1.3 head on a 1.6 block. Many have been done before.
Suzuki would never have a bodgy double '5' stamp like that

the other block specific differences between 1.3 and 1.6 are teh mounting bosses in front of the oil filter, emasure them and compare with a 1.3
