hi all,
a mate told me he once had a 1 ltr sierra, and that a 1.8ltr bolted straight into it,
and up to the suzuki 4 speed box,
anyone heard of this conversion that could shed some light on it for me
cheers
paul

No mate he is misinformed, he obviously didn't do the conversion. The engine will not bolt to the gearbox or the chassis. The conversion can and has been done many times but you use the toyota box and make engine mounts and gear box mounts from scratch, jack shaft has to be modified and shortened. Lots of work.

I've had a good look over my Zook, i bought it with a 4k Corolla 1.3L + 5speed box.. And it doesn't look like that much work
For the low end torque and reliability.. If you're half useful in the shed, might aswell do it

I really don't know much about the corolla motors and boxes, but my LJ81 has a 5k and 5 speed in it. Yes it has lots more go than an F8 or F10 down low, however 1st gear feels really high (I don't actually know what the ratios are), and crawling or clutch slipping is a near impossibility. Just something to consider if your looking at a similar conversion.

i say this every time i drive another car thats not a 4wd. after driving a sierra, i like im taking off in second gear. i assume the reason is 4wds need low ratios for offroad work (and because sierra's are gutless), but normal cars would just haven ratio's that are as long as possible for better fuel economy...

I have a 5k in mine at the moment already engineered etc etc.
Looks like the rolla box was put in too and T/C got moved back 100 ml and shortened jackshaft.
Never been in a sierra with the standard 1.3 litre engine but i think its prety gutless. tyres and standard T/C might explain it
