A friend of mines engine blew a head gasket and and has been told she needs a new engine. Anyone know where there is one in good condition. Needs to be in nsw preferably Newcastle area. Thanks

That's what I thought to she said it was cheaper to just get a new engine then get the head gasket done. I was considering buying the old one if she gets a new one. But I think I'll tell her to just get it fixed. But I dont know the whole story yet might be more damage

find out what is wrong with the engine before telling her to fix it.

it could have cracked the block, lost coolant and then over heated, warping the head and then blowing the head gasket.

head gaskets very rarely just blow for no reason.

Yea see the radiator and thermostat are both gone aswell. So I'd say it maybe stuffed.

I don't comprehend this, radiator is gone, so the donk is stuffed.

Thermostas typically fail in the open position, so there is another one.

A VRS kit is worth around $150, 5 hours to do the job, including a shaving the head, as it will be warped.

Unless the kilometers are extremely high, I cannot see how on earth an exchange motor can be cheaper than fixing the old.

Sorry mate, but 1/2 that post is BS....

The head's crack, if warped thay can't just be shaved, must be straightened or you will snap cam's, thermostat's do as thay will when shitting them self's..

Where does it say the head is cracked? I missed that.

When I done my head gasket, my fault, din notice the fan wasn't functioning, and cooked her, all I did was RnR the head with a shave, works perfect. I asked me mate the mechanic if facing the head was a good idea, as he said it needed it, I was like, er, ?? seems he is right, I would have liked to try and pull it down, as it was only minor warping IMO, but when I showed him he said noway, needs facing.

My understanding is that thermos were designed to fail in the open position, I may well be wrong, but its a belief that I have had since I started tinkering with cars at about 16 or so.

Thermostats usually fail because the wax pellet leaks or the spring breaks.
Leakage will cause it to stay closed.
Spring breakage will allow it to stay open.

Spring breakage is VERY rare.

My zook is the first car that has had a wax choke, lol I remember when I first heard the term, I was like, er, ok, sort of local name for some part, not realizing that in fact it is a wax choke, an I have no worries there, no wax choke.
