Have a coily - which has a coily style chain transfer case - not suprisingly.
Long term plan is for a higher output engine, larger tyres etc, so a transfer case swap is on the to do list.

Now, I understand these transfer cases can be replaced by the gear style from a leafy, which in turn can be modified with different gears for a lower range low range, lower range high etc.

What vehicle does the transfer case need to come from - is an early 90s SJ70 the best bet?
Any caveats? I gather the jack shaft between the gearbox and transfer has to be modified / replaced.
Do leafy transfers have the same speedo drive connection and 4wd switch etc?

Pretty sure it is a straight swap. The transfer cases are the same physically from the 1 ltr to the wide track leafy ones. Use the transfer arms from the donor case, you will need wide track flanges and jack shaft. I will have mine in soon hopefully so should be able to give you a bit better of an idea once it is done :P

rusho is on the money.

u need to get yourself

A W/T case
A set of Leefy mounts (prob best to get the ones off the wt with the case)
a W/T jack shaft
m10x35mm bolts x12 with nylock nuts

optinal would be gears and a rock toy ring, but that will get you going again mate!

hope that helped
Phil

Depending on what size tyres you go for, and whether you want to bias the car towards road or off road use, will dictate what model to get your transfer case from. A 1.3L leafy case will increase your gearing about 6%, whereas a 1L leafy case will increase your gearing about 12ish%. I've had a 1L and 1.3L case in my coily (which has 30's) and found that the 1.3 is better if the car gets driven on the highway more. The car sits on about 3200rpm at 100km/h (corrected). With the 1L case it was hovering around 4000rpm at 100km/h (corrected). Obviously, the 1L case would be best if you spend a lot of time off road and don't do much highway work. I'll be honest and say for me though, the amount of highway driving I do means the 1.3L case gets used most.
