lol cuny funt!

i found a bit more info for anyone doing the smae conversion

T-50 Gearbox
The T-50 gearbox has a separate bell housing, uses a hydraulic clutch and comprises 4 main alloy casting: bell housing, two diagonally split gear casings and a tail housing. This gearbox is often referred to as the ‘split case’ alloy 5 speed and weighs 29 kg. The ONLY bell housings that will mate a T-50 gearbox to a 4AGE come from a RWD 'A' series engine (3A/4A/4AGE).
The T-50 bell housing has letters cast externally into the top section between the uppermost bell housing to engine block bolt bosses that identify the engine it came from ie 3A or 4AG etc. 3A and 4A bell housings have the clutch fork on the LHS while 4AG bell housings place it on the RHS.
The T-50 gearbox was fitted to other engines as well, such as 1S and 3T etc. The gearbox itself is identical, however, the bell housings differ to suit the parent engine. There are also two types of T-50 gearbox, referred to as 20 and 22 spline. This relates to the number of splines on the gearbox output shaft. Both gearboxes have the same number of splines on the input shaft. There is also a difference in the diameter of the input shaft bearing, which is covered by the bell housing: 62 mm vs 68 mm. The 68 mm bearing is in the 22 spline gearbox. The 22 spline gearbox is more desirable as it is stronger. It is also what all RWD 4AGEs came with.
In general terms gearboxes made 1983 or newer are 22 spline. This means that 3T, 1S, 3A and 4A engines have 22 spline units. 2Ts are 20 spline - so be careful. The AE 85/86 and AA 63 series T-50 gearboxes are 650 mm long from the engine end of the bell housing to the centre of the gearlever mount, however, some tail shaft housings fitted to earlier 20 spline gearboxes are shorter, hence allowing relocation of the gearlever with some mixing and matching of components.
In reality a 22 spline gearbox is the only one you can use because it is the only one that will mate correctly with an A series bell housing and handle the power.

the supra box is pretty much over kill. the t50 box is rated up to 200kw! not gunna happen in my zook.

i think this pretty much sets the gearbox issue aside.

t50 it is. can anyone come up with a reason not to use this??? besides the fact that toyotas are gay!!!

royce hates toyotas because he thinks they have a conspiracy going trying to influence society by teling everyone that they are good quality, so they can charge more for vehicles and parts.

but royce has a conspiracy going telling everyone that toyotas suck, bringing toyotas down.

so just use the sierra motor, gearbox and transfer? easy and it's already there? no mods needed?

i now understand why it cant be used.... it has to bolt to the gearbox. i just looked at the one sitting in my garage....

it is rather big and bulky therefore hilux transfer case = pooch!

if i didnt mod any of the truck then what excuse would i have to drink??? my body is like a fine tuned engine... it needs plenty of liquid lubrication8)

the little corolla engines go hard, even the little company echo i drove around copped a thrashing day in day out and didnt complain at all. the 4age will help to turn the 35's... then after that is done i can drive OVER the top of those wankers in their little lowlux's and we can all sit back and laugh.

I think it all comes back to what the intended use is.

I'd like to see you on the rocks as fast as possible, so that means the less mods the better, because the mods you're talking about may take months/years as we've seen previously by others. Some/a lot never actually finish their projects and we see a few just part them out after a while. Which is a shame to see a perfectly good Sierra chopped up and then months later get sold because it all became too hard.

what was i saying? more drinks...

speaking of which... i'll have a bourbon!

my mates that are helping me are all pretty tight nit and range from a 24yr old bloke who likes rum... hilux doner... go figure. through to a 50yr old bloke who was able to put a commonwhore v6 into his hilux by himself that passed engineering without a worry. im taking phoos tomorrow and they will be posted tomorrow night.

i get my corolla in about a fortnight and will start early april with the conversion. then we can start wheeling seriously.

has anybody got some input on the previous post about the type of leafs to give best flex??? p p p please

the diffs came with springs but i think they might bee too stiff. they are lifted but im not too sure by how much! with the sierra being so light it will just bounce around where ever it goes... wouldnt it???

if they would work i would be cheering, free springs are always good

would standard height springs be the go or can you make any spring fit from any vehicle?

the amount of work you have ahead of you fabricating stuff, playing with springs is a drop in the ocean :)

sierras rears in the front will be pretty on the money stifness wise, maybe even a tad soft so you add a leaf in to make them stiffer

hilux fronts in the rear will be too stiff for sure, so take some elafs out

took photos yesterday but cant find the cable to transfer them to the computer. i will find it tonight and then i can show you how much of a beast it really is.. HA!

i took a photo of it "twisted up" yesterday before i have even touched it... rather dissapointing. so i took out the sway bar and put it back up on the makeshift ramp (a couple of blocks of timber) and found a reasonable difference.

it actually helped quite a bit and for 10mins of work is well worth it.

your right... i havent got and alloy wire so bring on the silicon bronze! nothing like a good braze on a major drive line part. and if that doesnt work there is always the bubblegum/sticky tape option! :)

go pubic the trend setter.

so mr governor of california... what motor will you be using?

i just so happen to have a suzuki swift gti motor sitting at work.... :D would look awesome in your zook.

the only reason i wanted to put the lux diffs in mine was because they were locked and my mate was selling them cheap. its good to have mates

and the only reason i went as big as the 35's is because that same mate was selling them cheap.

i think buying a whole lux may be a waste of money for you. i would seriously look at buying lockers for sierra diffs. all that you will be able to use from the lux would be the diffs.

alot of guys on here would swear by zook diffs. steve's little unit goes hard ( check out his gallery)

all im saying is for the cost of your lux probably around 1500-2000 you can get air lockers!!! and with the smaller brakes ( diameter ) you can still run 33's and look tough as all shit.

yo ugotta research into this as much as possible before you grab a spanner. look at all your options and ask as many questions to the blokes and ladies on this site. they have all done it before and have helped me a shit load..

cant wait to hear and see your progress.

have been looking at upgrading, but sticking with a zook motor still!! so that swift sounds very nice!! I actually brought the lux off my dad.. so get it for cheaper then what the diffs alone would have cost!! I agree that zook diffs are good.. The front of my zook is locked at the moment, and got a reconditioned one in the rear (1000 k's old). Main reason i'm wanting to do the lux transfer is for cheaper parts (CV's, axles etc.. found out the hard way about the cost for parts there!!) Also to gain that extra width, which will then allow me to gain height with the SOA (to also fit bigger wheels) without being too top heavy, where it would be with my zook wide track setup. Hopefully you followed that!!

nice rig mate. are they tasmanian plates??? poor bloke. just kidding.

sounds like you know what you want to do. just seems like a waste getting rid of those diffs. have you thought of spacers for your zook to get the width you want? if you put on the lux diffs you will need new rims.

the high steer kit on my diffs cost my mate about 6-$700 just for the j bracket and high steer arm.

just something else to consider.

haha, settle up!!! jokes. I have thought about spacers.. been told i would then have trouble with wheel bearings. The high steer arm looks to be the biggest killer.. i've seen a few places in america that do them.. may have to have another look. I would prefer to shop locally too!

all i can say is good luck finding a bloody gearbox to suit a 4age!

if you do happen to stumble across one snap it straight up!

i must have rang 20 people today and couldnt find shit down here in sydney. :x

there was one bloke up in qld somewhere who had one for $250! would be nice if it was down here. postage was only $75 but its a lot of mucking around.

what would be nice would be if one of the guys on this site would pick it up for me and drive it all the way down here 8)

i would seriously consider looking at a gti swift motor! i still have mine and if things dont work out within a month im changing back to the original plan!
