Okay, I really want to convert to a 1.6EFI rather than my carby 1.6
I've been trying to find one at wreckers but haven't had any luck. Really wanted it + ECU etc.
Only one I could find was a baleno one, with no ECU or wiring at all.
Now I wanted to know, what exactly would be needed to convert my current one to EFI?
Head, intake manifold, In tank fuel pump + ECU?
Is that all that's needed?
I've searched, but all I can find are whole engine conversions.

i dont think it can be done, as far as i know the carby ones are eight valve and have two dents in each piston for valve clearence, where as the EFI has 16 valves and four dents per cylinder. i think if you put a 16valve head on an 8valve block you could end up with bent valves or something. i guess its a matter of wether or not the dents acctually have a purpose or not, but then again, why would they put them there if it diddnt need it?
hope this helps a bit
Colin

Piston's are different, exhaust manifold, harness for ecu, Vss, if you use baleno you will need to graft a sump up..
Ect.

Easiest way to convert your carb 1600 to EFI would be to find a throttle body injection system off a 1600 swift? Or imported 1600TBI engine. There are a few around, I have a TBI system in the shed atm to convert a carby 1600 to efi. You require intake manifold, throttle body unit, MAP sensor, wiring and ECU off the donor car/engine and high pressure fuel pump. It wont perform like multipoint 16V engine but will deffinatly out perform the carby setup in both power, ecomony and relaibility!!

I think its ok to use a carb 1.6 block on a 16v head as its really the same block? Right?

You need the pistons for the 16v too (more material missing from top of piston so it avoids interference).

Unless you have the wrong piston's, 16v head on a 8v bottom end, nasty..

This is what I did in my old sierra. I got a 16v head + ECU and wiring for bout $600 from a wrecker.
It is possible to put a 16v head on an 8v engine, all it means is that the engine now becomes an interference engine i.e. if the timing belt snaps the valves will contact the pistons. Just change the timing belt when you do the conversion and you should be sweet for 100,000 k's or so.
Or if you want, you can do what I did and just replace the pistons with the 16v pistons. I only did this because the block needed reconditioning so I just swapped the pistons while I was at it.

Completely forgot about pistons, duh!
I think I might just source a fucked EFI 1.6, chuck it on the engine stand and build it before I put it in.
I've got an SC14 and a bunch of other goodies for it, so I might aswell do it outside the car and do it properly.
