hi, ive been looking around here for the past few weeks and im set on getting a zook as my first car
at first i wanted a hardtop sierra, but ive thought about it and a vitara is alot more suited to what i want to do. so im going with that
ill be mainly driving roads ect, and definitely 4X4ing on the weekends
will be looking at some lift and 30-31' muddies? as well as a decent sound system, fog lights, CB radio, other misc items
should i go for the long or short wheel base?
any other info would be great
oh and im looking at spending around $4-4500 to start

he said vitara guys... In my opinion if i were to buy a vitara I would be going for a short wheel base hard top. The 2L shape is a really nice looking car and still has a lot of potential offroad. No matter which way you go with vitara's you want EFI, bit more power and they are newer. You should be able to pick one up for around that but more likely a 1.6L for that sort of price range.

is the LWB much different 4WDing wise, i cant see it being great with only a 1.6L no offence

The 1.6 EFI is available from about '89 onwards. Someone here would know the exact year. There are advantages each way for LWB or SWB, but neither is 'better' IMO.

1.6L EFI is all you need to power a small 4x4. The most capable Vits I know of have the 1.6 in them, and even pushing an Auto they have more then enough power at high speed on the road...

My choice would be the 1.6 EFI SWB hardtop vitara.

The short wheelbase is nimble and great when your learning the art of wheeling.

The G16 in EFI format goes great in such a small package.

I just prefer the security and water resistance of a hardtop.

There is heaps of awesome aftermarket options available and they drive better than a sierra on road.

EFI- Electronic fuel injection


Aussie delivered Vits have MPFI - Multi Point Fuel Injection
Which is 4 injectors.

Where as some import motors that have come from overseas are Single injector in the throttle body.

I think it is just a term for the Vits to differentiate the overseas models.

front seats in a sierra have enough space. not comfortable, but it works.

The extra room in the lwb is very handy you can fit more in them
Comfortably all your camping gear etc plus the extra stability is great.
I opted for the 2 Litre lwb auto IMO the auto is great offroad and I wouldn't go back to a manual for offroad work onroad its good too.
The extra power of the v6 is good to.

The only let down for me is that even when lifted your ramp over angle isn't as good as a swb

If you do go for the swb get a hard top IMO if it's your only car the security and being dry will be important plus they look better

i like the lwb just for the fact of i can carry all my camping gear plus half of rusho's. yes you loose some ramp over angle but its miniumal

ive been looking around carsales trading post ebay ect for about 2 months now and have found only a few that are what i want.
as of last week ive pretty much been given the go ahead from my parents to get a car, now that i have a job.

BUT i feel like im being too picky.
things i have to have:
2D hardtop
5k or less
within about a 2 hour drive
EFI
reasonable KMs

im starting to doubt that ill be able to find one with this stuff particularly the EFI for my budget, and i dont really wanna sacrifice any power with the carby engine

HELP ME!

forget about the EFI as you can have that done yourself later. If you can stretch ya budget a bit you could find yourself a nice Jimny or even a late 90's Vitara.

LOL well i was thinking that when i first got on here, and everyone seems to do conversions ect. i was like yea ill do that easily
but when i thought about it, i highly doubt ill ever do a convertion because 1 lack of expertise and 2 im really just too lazy.

but yea 9k is a fair bit out of my range ahah
i guess ill just keep looking
