Hi guys,

Have just joined auszookers but have been perusing this site for the past few months, good stuff :) What I have acquired in the last year has been my sister's old 93 Suzuki Vitara SWB (softop) with the G16A engine. Has been a great little car and super fun when taking offroad, though have only really taken it on the beach and dunes up around Lancelin and just south of Yanchep (Alkimos area). The only real problem I've had with it was it not going into 4wd, which I later found out to be due to the front locking hubs being seized up (took them out, cleaned, repacked and all good from then on).

Soo have had problems with the car recently being hard to start while hot, so decided to buy a carbie rebuild kit and attempt to rebuild the carb. Pretty much disassembled it all fine and cleaned everything (carb cleaner, compressed air, etc) but then got stuck reassembling it as I obviously didn't take enough photos and probably over estimated my mechanical-minded abiltiy. Have just taken the carb in to Perth Carb. Specialists (Osb. park) and have been quoted a max of about $750 to put it all back together with a full cleanout/rebuild which will leave it looking like brand new (one of my vacuum diaphragms is also shot). All in all seems like a sh*t load of money for a car thats probs only worth about $1500 at the moment.

So I have heard about doing an G16B EFI conversion to a G16A, like using the G16B head and throttle body on the G16A block, and was just wondering whether I should consider this instead of getting the carb re hauled if it is not too much more expensive then the re haul. Do the gains in doing the conversion outweigh the costs and work involved? :?:

I wouldn't mind keeping the car for a while and slowly mod'ing it up.

Anyways any of your thoughts/ideas would be of great help!

Depending on how lucky you are and how much of the job you can do yourself, the G16B conversion can cost anything from $500 to $5000

I've got this Denso unit laying around which you could be interested in. Just haven't gotten around to see what it's worth.
Also has complete cables going back to computer

I used to go to Alkimos alot for fishing, but that was along time ago, back in the 80's when i had my 1L Sierra...

You can get an off the shelf rebuilt carby at some carby places for $450 to $500, and they fit and tune for that price... if you dont know about Suzistore in Midland yet, i would give them a ring, or check out their website, they only do Suzuki's, and are very good with 4WD Zooks...

As for conversion, i would get the Carby done for now, dont know how many km's your Vit has done, but i would wait until something expensive goes wrong with the engine, if it aint broke, dont worry, as it can be expensive to do... but, Suzistore can give you a quote for conversion, if you really want it...

Yeah bought the rebuild kit from suzistore, and ended up having a little chat to them about a few other little problems I'm finding that aren't really too big at all. Helpful bunch they seem :)

Well for info the zook has done about 260 000kms, which I'm pretty sure is all on the original engine. Still going good, although the gearbox is a bit iffy getting into second (more on the down changing - bit of double clutching sorts it out though) and I think there's some issues with the rear diff, but still all good ;)

Hmmm yeah maybe the best call is then just to suss out a recon'd carbie - the guy did have one out of the 1.3L sierra for about $550, but wasn't too sure I wanted to go down from the 1.6. Will make a few calls over the weekend and see what I can get my hands on. Cheers for the help :)
