i had a friend die when his car jack knifed on a dirt road with a trailer on the back. he was only doing about 40k at the time and was lucky that it didn't kill every one in the car.
Sorry for your loss,
I'm not exactly unfamiliar with towing a loaded trailer.. I didn't actually know about the 750kg brakes required law however, broken that a few times
I only wanted a few simple questions answered, and somone wants to have me strung up
People talk enough bullshit on this forum, i just do it in a way that looks believable?

Spring Over, stock light weight trailer shackle springs, shackle extension, zook shox
Works a treat with a trailer around 240 + load up to 450kg total.
Towed behind Sierra and Now a Vitara

jccck, if you kill yourself due to your own fault it's not such a big issue, but if your driving through newcastle with a trailer load on can't pull up in time and kill my sister it's another story. just think if you hurt others on public roads.
im prob's not the most qualifed to say this, but grow up and use your brain, this isn't a biggest dick contest, people offer answers on the question you asked, and with good advise comes bad advise. cop it on the chin.

Sierra rear bumpstop, Sierra shock, Sierra spring pad.. Nice recycling! I've got loads of spares, i'll end up using them too like this 31zook wrote: jccck, if you kill yourself due to your own fault it's not such a big issue, but if your driving through newcastle with a trailer load on can't pull up in time and kill my sister it's another story. just think if you hurt others on public roads.

Mate, i've never towed my trailer with more than 2-300KG on the road
And i've certainly never towed it long distance
I'm grown up enough to realise that most of the people here think this is infact a who has the biggest dick contest.. And it's a joke.
I got good advice from 2-3 people, and a boatload of abuse from the rest.. Even when i was just talking crap.

Sorry for being vague, i've broken the law in the Territory!
Never in the Zook
I'd consider the Territory pretty safe by comparison
I had to tow a mates car on a car trailer, it had one of those compression ebrake thingos.. So i put the latch over to disable it
It was down right dangerous driving with that brake on, any slight downhill/pothole was enough to tap thebrakes on the trailer.. Scary
Besides a 2.2T car with a 2t load seemed fine to brake with, i had a car not blinker on a roundabout and i didn't have any problem stopping

oh and these are the basic rules for trailer brakes and suspension aust wide if anyone cares.
# trailers up to 750kg no brakes required (still not a super flash idea JMO)
# trailers over 750 kg and up to 2000kg brakes on one axle minimum
# trailers over 2000kg and up to 3500kg brakes on all axles with vehicle breakaway system, required to work brakes for 15 min if seperated
and brakes adjustable for in vehicle (so electric most likely)
# trailers wider than towing vehicle required to run clearance lights and refectors.
#tandem trailers using non load sharing suspension (ie non rocker roller) require springs to be rated 120% of rated load of trailer.
If you have any other questions I have the latest regs and ADR's just ask
cheers andrew

I'm interested in this. I'm currently running 4 leaf slipper springs on my 5x3 SPOA camping trailer. Fully laden it'd be about 400-450kg and though it doesn't get used much, it tends to do several thousand kays in a hit when it is.
I'm upgrading the axle, bearings, hubs (F100) and wheels (stock Zook) soon ... should I be thinking about moving to a shackle spring setup as well? Seems fine at the moment and has some 50x10 wear plates for the slippers but have read some mixed opinions regarding them.
Have stock Zook fronts or 2" OME fronts here that I can use...

My slipper springs started to wear thru the sides of the retainer, and well into the extra bit of metal I put in, for them to slip against.
I think sand in the grease acts like sandpaper, so imho I reckon shackle springs better for long distance out back.
Its not so much trailer handling that improves, tho it did, its more the case of trailer contents and tent top get a lot less shaken...me eggs dont arrive scrambled )
