Have you driven a Lada?? 8O

Go drive one, then come back & tell us the brake's are good..

Cause you won't.

Cause youve never driven one with the brakes adjusted properly. They are actually awesome brakes. Too good for the weight of the car actually. It just takes a year of research to figure out how to adjust them

They are certainly not spongy either :D

Sounds like the guys have got you OP down a much better road though. Certainly nothing overly bad about lwb vit brakes.

I will however go out and get under one of the ladas this arvo and have a look. Dont imagine it would be an easy conversion though. Those Russians sure had a different way of thinking to every one else when it came to building cars :P

Are they solid front axle?

Could consider a whole hub swap :P

Looks like it'll be LWB vit front though. Also, how complex is the rear disc conversion for my sierra?

Fucked a wheel cylinder today, pulled it apart, gonna need new shoes and what not anyway. Might be an idea to do disc rear..

those calipers may sound like a good one to use on the rear. Since less braking is needed for the rear the first stage may be a good idea. And when you need mega stopping power then they will grip like shit to a blamket

Saves as custom mounts are being made anyway. Just have to check the pad and disc comparision to suzuki if you are using suzuki rear discs or if you could put the whole niva disc/ caliper combo on.

Just an Idea

I think thay are good car's for their intended purposes & country, a lot of the " nice drive" you read about is lost on jamming the peddle box in to the r/h side of the car, anyone with big feet have trouble's driving em..

without taking a wheel off its a bit hard to really look at things but after a quick look under both cars...things are looking really bloody different!
For starters youd have to swap the calipers to thier wrong sides to keep the bleeders at the top, unless you could use the whole lada caliper mounting part and that just aint gonna happen.

And steak the big feet problem also completely dissapears when the brakes are adjusted properly 8O yep really wish id got the brakes figured out about 2 years sooner  man it got hairy on occasion.

One near miss involved bad brakes combined with not being able to get a foot on the clutch while the throttle was stuck on aproaching stationary cars at traffic lights :?

Yeah its actually really easy once you know how. There is just not much documentation on it.

All you have to do is adjust the rear brakes and then set the hand brake to be full on at 3 clicks... Perfect!

Must be something weird in the brake bias system maybe that means if the back isnt done right then nothing works.

I guess its Ladas way of keeping us on our toes

Lada brakes are good cause they have to stop every 50 metres to pick up the pieces that have fallen off

Not hold them on, they will still work even without the handbrake cable(just not very well) but it holds the adjustment nice and tight so you dont need to push the pedal 6feet before starting to slow down

I dont really know why it works it just does :?
